Description This is the process I go through when I make a character drawing.

1. Roughly sketch out the pose and proportions with a large brush. Takes several tries to get something good.
2. Start carving muscles out of the lines. Add and erase “paint” as needed to get the desired shapes. Adjust pose and proportions.
3. Thin the lines and refine shapes. Start putting down details in this stage.
4. On a new layer, add clothes, using a similar technique to steps 1-3.
5. On another new layer, make lineart using a pencil brush. This stage will help catch mistakes before inking, and makes the inked lineart cleaner.
6. New layer, ink over the lines made in the last step. Erase as little as possible to keep the lines smooth and even.
7. Make a mask. On a layer behind the lines, fill in the outline with gray. This makes coloring slightly quicker, and makes shading much easier.
8. Using as many new layers as you want, color the character. Each color layer should have “clipping mask” turned on, so it won’t go outside of the mask you made in the previous step.
9. Make a new layer, set it to ~50% opacity, and change the blend mode to multiply. Turn “clipping mask” on. Decide on a light source. Using a desaturated reddish-magenta, color in whatever areas that aren’t facing the light source with a hard brush. Play around with the size of the dark area until it looks right.
10. Add a simple background. If using a complex background, draw that before sketching the pose to make the character look integrated into their surroundings.

And finished! If you have any questions, feel free to ask! All comments are welcome.
