Description
ProlougeWhat would mountains say if they could talk? What stories would they tell? Stories of monsters, demons, creatures unknown.. stories of battles, wars, and struggles alike? Or one story, a story that all the mountains would know. A story that the wind would whisper to the trees and the trees would tell the earth. A story that the stars would turn a blind eye to, if that was, stars could see? The story of a man. Sin is a retched thing, to often it destroys the futures of those worthy. Greed is a monsterous thing, it and sin walk hand in hand, tredding across the sands of time with backs turned to the havoc they cause. I tell you the story of a man, condemned to hell unknown, unheard of. I tell you the story of a second chance. I tell you..the story of kayn.
Chapter one
Eyes as cold as the night watched the northern sky. The darkness bid him farewell as the first lights of dawn streaked across the almost flawless land. The chaos going on inside his head was painful, the choices to make..the consequences.. Oh what a horrid world this was. The knowledge of what would be added another painful burden apon his shoulders. The grass, so green beneath his feet would soon become dry, brittle. The trees, so full of life would soon slump in defeat. The waterfalls, the streams would all ceice to flow, Even the sun would dodge this place.. Rayda-Las, home of the elves. They were leaving, struck with the same knowledge kayn had. They saw the destruction of this place, so untouched by the gruesome hand of evil. And without the people of light to bring back the purety of the land, its future was as inevitable as kayns. The very foundation of the world was falling to the hands of evil. The whisper of temptation drew so many to its side, leaving behind a trail of devestation, deseption and despair. The holyest of men succumbed to the wrath of evil. They shook in fear. Kayn had vowed to protect the people of Rayda-Las, but knew there day was soon. They knew it to. The antisipation of what might happen was gone, leaving only a deep acceptance of there ill fate. Kayn glanced at two elves as the walked by, Annon and Kiraden, both kind with words and innocent of heart. They were what inspired him to continue. People like them deserved a chance. People like them had a right to live. Annon, the older of the two, was trying to tell Kiraden they'd all be ok. But Kayn knew they would'nt. They all knew it. What was life, though, if you had nothing to hold on to? Bleak, sad, miserable. Like kayns. Kayn, who wanted nothing more than to die, who always tried to help but who would always be condemed. Kayn, whos bitterness toward the world was turning numb, like all the feeling before it. Kayn...Who walked alone, who couldno longer show his longing for friendship, companionship,. He could never reveal, even to himself, the things he so desperatly needed. One moment of weakness...and it was all over. He could walk beside the elves, mingle among them, weave a tale of how they would be safe, of how he would protect them from there cruel fate. But that was'nt right. He couldnt lie to them. Could'nt give them a false hope. If truth be known, Kayn was leading them to they're death, and they would all die. Without hope, even if it was wrong. They of all people deserved the truth. They would crawl to the arms of there loved ones, beg for death even if they knew was the end already.Everyone and everything died. This was never a world of peace, it was a world of death and false hope, a world of lies and pain. And even if Kayn wanted to fix it, he couldnt. Depsite who and what he was, the world was lost from whence it began... They would all die..
The elves loyalty to kayn was as fierce as there love and loyalty to eachother. There hope and trust lay with him. Kayn was all they had left to beleive in. He would save them, he would get them through these struggles, this war. He would be there hero.. And though Kayn trusted few, he would trust the elves with his very soul. If time and life had not left him so cold, so indifferent, he knew to the deepest depths of his blackened soul he would love them unconditionally. He would be there friend. He would be there brother. So many years ago, he had prayed for a chance at friendship, prayed for help with his struggles. So many years ago..He had stopped praying, stopped hoping, stopped his foolish wishing.
How could someone feel so alone, while walking amongst allis? How could someone feel so lost in a world they knew so well?As kayn watched the people around him, he observed the beauty of the land. The trees, breathtakingly tall and unbeleivably sturdy, stood over them as if keeping watch, guarding there home. The grass, wild and untamable semed to be hiding hidden treasures. The river, curving and turning, making its way around the land, seemed to be running. And the birds and beast around them.. seemed to be angry. And oh how green it all was, oh how full of life and sevrets. Through all of his long years of life, he would always stand in awe at the ominiouse brooding beauty the world held, He would always stand in awe at how quickly it could change in the hand of evil. He would always stand in awe at how easily it could all be lost. The small number of elves made there slow way through the forest, all armed and ready for battle. For death. All putting there faith in one man. The light breeze seemed to be carrying secrets, whispering to the elves, tormenting them with the promise of death it carried so lightly. The very air they breathed smelled of death and misfortune, yet the dreadful scent blended in with the smell of life. Kayn could since the anger this land held. He could almost feel its tears. What had caused so much pain that even the land begged for sancuary? Was it angry at them for tresspassing across its well guarded forest? No. But it was angry. He could hear the sounds around him, the very ground they walked over seemed to be trembling beneath there feet.Whatever tragic event had taken place here, it had left an aftermath of pain and shock. Had it been an ambush? Were humans or other creatures dwelling in these forest? Was evil already taking hold of it all? He sighed, and turned back to the fifty or so elves. Though they all seemed focused on the ground ahead of them, he knew that even they were aware that somthing had happened here. Or was the land warning them? The thought came unbidden into his mind. All eyes down cast, they elves remanined silent. They were beautiful, like the land around them. All had long silky hair, flowling past there waist, there gray eyes saw more than they should. There lean, athletic bodies were all built for agility, and in this land, they almost seemed to glow. The few women and children stood well guarded in the middle. There ragged clotheing dragging on the ground. The men, blades and daggers held constantly at ready, walked with pride, where others would carry defeat. Kayn would make things right again. No, he could not give them back there lives, not when it was already lost. No, he could not give them a painless end, when they knew it would hurt. No, he could not tell them that some would survive, not when they all knew none would. But he could avenge them,What would he have left? Nohting but the remains of his shattered pride and ice cold heart. How many days did the elves have left? One? Two? The silence they held..echoed throughout the land.
Kayn blinked at the bird staring so questionably back at him. Its beauty held a facinating appeal to him. Intellegence lingered in the depths of its eyes. Intellegence, and knowledge. Kayn looked past the bird, his thoughts troubled. The elves had told him to leave. Kayn had attempted an argument, but he knew it was useless.. They didnt want him to see them die, didnt want to give him another reason to harden the remains of his heart anymore. Despite the warmth in the air, a familure bitter cold swept through him. His face remanied as emotionless as ever, his eyes as cold as ice. He looked up to the sky, searching for answers that he knew it would not give. He hated to go against what the elves had wished for him, and damned the way of life that had forced this on him. This ongoing war tore at the core of his heart. He didnt want to be a part of it, he only wanted to see it finished. He lay in the center though..desperatly trying to help those who cared for him, yet also striving to reach the heart of the evil.
The darkness came swiftly. The night was cold and almost the deepest of blacks. No stars lit the sky, no moon guided them with its light. Hand in hand the elves walked through the night. They ignored the breeze. It should have been soothing but it was a message.. They refused to listen to the warning it held, keeping there attention focused on the fellow elves soft breathing. They knew he was coming for them. They knew, despite everything they had told him, asked of him, he was still coming. The elves only wanted what was right for him. He was a broken soul. Onew who would always only follow his own set of rules. They knew as well as he did that his attempts at saving them were useless but that wouldnt stop kayn..Nothing would. Out of the shadows, the khiaye appeared.
