I wish I could draw my dozens of characters with as much continuity as you did here. Hmmn, maybe I should try it sometime. It's hard when I don't really have a solid "this-is-mine" style (yet?). Still, I really love how each of your characters is just unique enough to make them memorable- whether it's physical or some sort of notation that points out their personal quirks. Your simplistic character design is really what draws me into your work.
I just found your webcomics today, I'm going to try to follow them as closely as I can, since it's hard for me to remember to check Drunk Duck (honestly, I thought it was gone-heh). I will though! I will try hard.

Oh, wow. What an incredibly generous and well-thought-out comment. Thank you. I'm really flattered.
Haha. Yeah. I remember the quest to define myself as an artist with my own style. It was tough. I think you have a beautiful style as is but I'll trust you on this.
Thank you. My style ended up being really limited so I my hand was forced if I wanted people to differentiate the characters. Haha. I have a newer version on the list as I don't update my dA anymore. [link]
Oh, did you? Thank you for the effort! Haha. I'm honored.
To be honest, I forgot about Drunkduck too. I made the account eight years back or so and it wasn't until I desperately needed a place to put up a comic did I return three years ago. Haha. I really should update soon but web design is beyond my understanding.

Oh! So I guess it would be better for me to follow your blog there instead? I don't mind bookmarking it, I do it a lot for artists who don't use Twitter/Tumblr/whatever-er.
Also, I don't think there is anything wrong with having a limited style, I bet it's much easier to keep continuity that way. I've always wanted sort-of two styles- a serious one and a cuter one. I haven't really found a way to split the difference yet though. Working on it!
I was on SmackJeeves for quite some time (even put the 7th hiatus'ed incarnation of my own webcomic up there) but I grew somewhat tired of what I saw there...and then I came back and...I don't know, it's hard to be everywhere isn't it? XD
Web design is...well, I was studying it seriously for about two years before my artistic side said "STFU and draw comics and stuff" and I said "OK artistic self, please don't hurt me" and returned to animation/character design/whatever. Still, there are lots of places where it's easy to put things where you don't need to know web design to use it, like Tumblr and stuff like that.

Haha, yes, I suppose that was my ulterior motive. I apologize. Thank you for the support.
Hm, you think so? I wonder if it's a case of wanting what you don't have but I understand where you're coming from.
Aw, me too, man! If you gotta have two styles cute and serious is the way to go. You essentially cover all your bases that way, right? Haha.
Haha, yeah. I was thinking of having a mirror account on smackjeeves but... Is it weird to say I don't like the feel of the site? Yeah. So many things to catch up on in the world.
Hahaha. Yeah. I can't imagine web design being fun if you have stories and such you want to tell. However it is useful though.
That's true. Still, I'd like to have my own website so I don't have to have an account for a blog and then one for comics. Also I'd just like to design a page for my comic. Right now it's just the default on drunkduck and it's abysmal. Haha.

No problem; like I said before it's hard to be everywhere when the internet is just so damn big.
That's probable, still it's something I've strived for for some time now, so it makes sense that I'd be envious of your simplistic style. I think I over-think everything far too much when I draw now.
It's not weird to say you don't like the feel of Smackjeeves. They've totally changed it up and their site looks like a train wreck of a bad design template from the early 00's. However, the usability is pretty good and they feature a nice favourite/ bookmarking system, so I stuck with it. At least for the purposes of following 100+ webcomics without bookmarking them all separately. I'm okay with bookmarking five or ten comics that aren't on SJ, but when they start to pile up- whoo. Plus RSS feeds could not be any harder to remember to check- I swear.
The actual design part was sort of fun, but the coding made me want to switch to anything but web design. There was a time when I thought, 'well, I gave up on cartoons and web design...what's left? I guess I'll be an interior decorator, or something. Gotta' use that knowledge of the principles of design somehow right?'. But like I said, I got over that...
Yeah, my dream website is one that I can split into my cute children's' illustration design work and my more serious/mature works (sort of a day/night deal-y). Then I can design a single site and re-purpose it, or something to that effect. I dunno, it sounds good in my head, but it's hard to bring into reality.

Oooh this is handy!
Man, you have so many characters. I have like... three.

RandomPerson89 In reply to ashwara [2009-11-23 21:26:51 +0000 UTC]
Haha, it's not that many characters actually. It's actually characters from a bunch of different stories in one so actually it's like... four characters per story? But combined it makes 108 characters! Actually, probably more now.

ashwara In reply to RandomPerson89 [2009-11-24 13:42:24 +0000 UTC]
That's still a lot man! A lot of stories too.
I might have more if I counted al the short stories and such i've written but even then it would be at most, maybe 20.
My bro Scott and I came up with a new character called Detective Bryan. Bryan S. Book. The name of his story is... Book and the Case!

Bleh, a lot of stories, I guess. It's the collective of all my stuff from middle school til now.
Sigh, I'm just making excuses, haha! Whatever, man! I'll have as many characters as I want!
Really? Only 20? It seemed like you had at least 3 per story. Only 20 that really stand out to you, maybe?
Ah, but of course. Puns. Haha. You should make an entire comic based off puns. Maybe that'll serve as an outlet instead of me? Haha.

whah I just started cleaning out my messages... I didn't realize I never replied to these. Ha ha.
I guess I just need to write more stories.
Actually though my friend Scott and I started a comic about this detective named Bryan Book. It's called Book on the Case and the whole thing is pretty much a lot of puns.

Well, technically I did. Sometimes I just get intimidated because I want to make sure I don't rush responses. Ha ha.
Man the thing about communicating through DA messages... it's easy to forget what you've already said.
