Description
It was a cold, wintery day on the island of Sodor. The engines were very excited. It was almost Christmas and everyone was busier than ever. The Fat Controller was most ecstatic, “I need an engine to collect the special Christmas tree that will be arriving from the docks” he boomed. The engines beamed, “I wonder who will take the tree?” Edward thought. “I should!” Peeped Percy. “No!” Shouted Thomas, “I should, I’m very quick!” “Nonsense” huffed Gordon, “I’m the quickest.” “Sorry, Gordon” said the Fat Controller, “you have an express to run.” Gordon frowned, “but if I can’t, then who will?” The Fat Controller pondered, “James!” James then rocketed from the sheds, “WELL OF COURSE SIR, heheh I’m mean I would love to!” The Fat Controller smiled, “then it’ll be done.”As the Fat Controller left, James began to boast. “Ohh, tough break guys. It’s fine, I’m sure he’ll pick you next year, tah tah!” James laughed and he left the sheds. The other engines were most disappointed, but they knew they had other work to do.
Later, James arrived at the docks. Henry was also there, he was set to take flatbeds full of logs to be cut up. “Of course they’d pick me” James boasted to Henry, “I am the most splendid engine on Sodor!” “Hwut!” Henry huffed, “it’s not that big of a deal.” James sighed, “if it’s not that big a deal, then why complain about it?” Henry was speechless, and before he could udder another word, James left in a cloud of smoke; but as James puffed, he didn’t notice the points had been set to the incorrect line. James buffered up to some flatbeds and with a weash, he left the dock within minutes.
While James was puffed down the line, he didn’t notice he wasn’t caring the special tree. Then as quick as a flash, Henry raced by with a flatbed of his own. “Huh?” James puffed as he saw the flatbed was carrying the special Christmas tree. “OH NO!” James cried, “Henry’s gonna cut up the tree for fire wood!” James then raced after Henry and the Christmas tree as fast as he could.
Meanwhile, Henry had noticed James. “Oh, you wanna race? I’ll give you one!” Henry shouted as he roared to the sawmill. James tried to keep up, but Henry was too fast.
After an hour of chancing, James arrived at the mill. He saw Henry outside, who looked very upset. “What happened?” James asked. Henry frowned, “I tried to stop them, but I was too late.” James felt terrible, he felt as if he’d let the railway down. “If it’s makes you feel any better, I’ve still got you’re logs” James puffed. “Oh, thanks” Henry smiled weakly.
As James puffed back to Tidmouth, Henry headed to the forest to collect more logs.
As Henry sat with now empty flatbeds, he thought and thought for the longest of time. Suddenly, an idea flew into Henry’s funnel. He looked around and once he did he said something to his driver and fireman. The driver and fireman told the manager, and the manager told the workmen, and they got straight to work.
Meanwhile, James was wondering into the yard, wanting to not be seen; but the engines were all there, waiting to see the beautiful Christmas tree. “T-t-the tree?” James quivered. “Yes, James” said the Fat Controller. James was very scared, he didn’t want to tell the Fat Controller what happened.
James puzzled and puzzled, but then a cheerful “peep peep!” Erupted from the side, it was Henry. Henry had a large tree on his flatbed, it was the most beautiful tree the engines had ever seen. “I got it sir” Henry smiled, “James and I had a little…mix up.” “well then” boomed the Fat Controller, “if that’s the case then I’ll let you off the hook, James.” James beamed gratefully.
Soon the tree was put up as the engines admired it’s beauty. James whispered to Henry, “thanks, buddy.” Henry smiled, “consider it a gift, Merry Christmas.”
And as the engine sang carols, they knew the only thing worth on Christmas, were the ones they shared it with…
MERRY CHRISTMAS!
