As the morning light shined across the island of Sodor, the Fat Controller was beaming with excitement. His butler asked him why he was so cheerful and he replied. “It’s my wife’s birthday!” The Fat Controller smiled, “and I’m making it the best she’s ever had.” The butler laugh, “not like the time you showed up a complete mess?” He chuckled to himself, but the Fat Controller wasn’t listening, he was set to make his wife’s party the best it’s ever been.

Later, the Fat Controller went to see Gordon. “I’ve ordered a special brass band to Sodor, it’s for me wife’s birthday party” he stated, “and I want you to haul the train!” Gordon was excited, important jobs always make him feel proud, so proud that he didn’t shy away from tell the others.

Thomas was disappointed, “how come you get to take the brass band and not me?” He steamed, “I’m really useful too.” Gordon huffed, “if that was the case, then the Fat Controller should have asked you.” He said. “BUT HE DIDN’T!” James laughed. Thomas left the yard for his usual duties.

Meanwhile, Gordon puffed proudly threw the countryside, he had just picked up the brass band and was making great time, until something broke! Gordon screeched to a haunt. “What happened?!” He asked his driver. “It’s bad, Gordon…” sighed his driver. “One of your crank pins broke and we have no replacements.” Gordon gasped, and tried to think of a solution, but there were non to be found.

Gordon’s driver telephoned the Fat Controller, who called for Thomas immediately. As Thomas got the news, his boiler thought it would explode. The blue tank engine rushed over with Anne and Clarabelle, who where also excited.

Thomas pulled up along side Gordon, who looked miserable. Thomas felt sorry for Gordon, but was too excited to really care. He waited to a tee, and quickly puffed away without a second thought. As he did, the Tuba player stepped out of Gordon’s coach. “Huh?” He asked, “where’s my mates?” Gordon’s driver explained what had happened and the Tuba player started to worry. Luckily, Bertie the bus was near by and had offered to take the tuba player.

Meanwhile, Thomas had arrived at Maithwaite station, when he noticed the tuba player was aboard. “We can’t play without the tuba player!” The trumpeter said, “it’d sound all wrong!” Thomas sighed, “don’t worry, don’t worry!” He puffed, “I’ll find him” and he set off as quickly as he could.

Meanwhile, Bertie was still hauling the tuba player. Unfortunately, he didn’t know where Lady Hatt’s party was. “Must find Thomas, must find Thomas!” He said to himself. To pass the time, the Tuba player started to play on his instrument. Too bad, Bertie wasn’t into brass.

Meanwhile, Thomas chuffed desperately, faster and faster he puffed. “Must find him, must find him.” Thomas was going so fast, that he missed the red signal, but luckily he noticed just in time. He breaker hard and only hit a pair of buffers. “Who did we hit?” Thomas asked nervously. The driver and fireman got out to see, “it Arther!” They smiled. Arther had broken down and was waiting for repairs. Thomas apologized to Arthur, but Arther was lenient.

“But where are you going to such a hurry, Thomas?” Arther asked. Thomas explain his predicament. Arther thought for a moment, “well maybe, and this is just a hunch? If he’s a tuba player, then maybe he’s playing a tuba.” Arther suggested. Thomas thought kept that info, and slowly left to find the tuba player again.

Thomas soon looked around, he listened closely and could then her the sound of a distend tuba being played, Thomas gasped and could see Bertie. Thomas whistled and Bertie honked, the two stopped at the level crossing. “Thanks Bertie!” Thomas puffed, “I have to get going now, I hope I didn’t cause you too much trouble.” Thomas chuffed away. “Don’t worry” Bertie muttered, “it’ll hurt my ears…”

Thomas was quick to get back, but not too quick. Lady Hatt’s was pleased with her party, and so was the Fat Controller; and Thomas watched the brass band played their wonderful music…
