Description FINALLY!
Here it is, the finished clay of the tree... MAN, am I glad to finally be able to post it!
You may not see a lot of difference between this and the last post of it, but the differences are big to me....
I lengthened the fingers a bit and changed the position of the arm to closer match the drawing.

The leaf canopy is still photoshopped in, but I still wanted to give an indication of what it will look like when it's cast in bronze.
I sculpted 3 different leaf clump sizes...large, medium and small....
I also sculpted 3 different thicknesses of small branches to be attached naturally throughout the underside of the canopy....

The cheese and crackers that will be hanging down as fruit will be cast in resin and attached at the bronze stage as well...
Overall size will be approx. 7 feet high
5 feet wide
6 feet deep
I'll be adding little secret hidden things that I can't reveal until the owner sees them in person....
Gotta make you wait...sorry

Now it's time to mold this thing....
I'll take pix of that whole process as well.
This will be the first time that I'll have progress shots of a big piece from start to finish....
Thanks to everyone for your patience with my posting of this.
I really needed to make sure I was completely happy with the leaf clumps and that is where I spent a large amount of time...
The challenge was making the leaves look natural and have some movement....
Thanks to all for your friendship and support!
Hope you like it!
Take care,
Randy
Ps I'll be posting shots of the other side as well...

Thank you so much!
I've never heard of The Last Unicorn but would love to see images of the tree in it if you know of any?
Is it a book or a movie or both?
Thanks again for the kind words and support!

The one I'm thinking of is a movie from when I was a little girl. The tree in the movie is female and brought to life by a magician. I'll see if I can find a picture. However, you can watch the movie on YouTube

Randy this came out awesome...but I am waiting to fav the final bronze. Love how you can always get such personality in your works...you can't really teach that in art - you are just one of those artists that can connect and transfer what they have inside. I love that you choose joy and a sense of humor...we really need that in this world. Your art has a way of lightening the heart...great work!

Thanks so much Evan...That was a great message to wake up to this morning...
Your support and encouragement means a lot to me.
Looking forward to posting the bronze shots in a few months...I've already got an idea of the color scheme that I'm going to use and hopefully it will exceed my expectations and everyone else's...
Thanks again my friend!

Man, that is freakin' awesome!!
The movement on everything is fantastic. I love how it all flows and with those wonderful sweeping textures running from the roots up to the branches.
You always do the greatest expressions. The satisfied grin and those eyes are beautifully done.
And the leaves look excellent! Will be even better once the real things are on but even here you can see how effective they are. They work really nicely together and has a great shape to it all without looking clumpy.

Hope you're able to take some pics of the bronze piece in Hawai. Would love to see that... also love to go there and sit under it *sighs*
Really looking forward to the seeing the progress pics of the moulding process. And can't wait to see the finsihed bronze!
Amazing work my friend!
Take care,
Jamie

I really had fun putting all the lines in and getting it all to flow and feel right.
I'll definitely get shots of it in Hawaii...
Gonna have to buy a couple more memory cards....haha...

Yeah, the moulding is going to be a beast, but worth it in the long run...
Thanks again for your kind words and support my friend!

Yeah, you might want to check the hotels and see what the status is....
When do you think you'll want to check in?
If it's Friday I can see about getting you tickets to the patron party on Friday night (5-8 pm) if you're interested....
Take care Tim!

Are you going to have the tree there?!

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

RandyHand In reply to TKMillerSculpt [2009-07-02 19:02:09 +0000 UTC]

Sadly no...
Even if I could have it in time, I don't think I would want to show it.
There are some surprises etc. on the tree and I wanted her to be the first to find all of them...
It's cool cuz she emailed me and said that they aren't going to open the crate until we are there.
We're hoping that it arrives while we are there...
Take care man!

The woman who commissioned me to do it has a theme area in her amusement garden...
It's going to be a snack/hors d ouvers....theme...
My giant snail Escargot is there already, and now the cheese and cracker tree will be....
the place where it's going is at this web site...
