A parallel universe, still the hero but in a different sense.Was listening to some music and experimenting with urbanized Link. Why is it that for Hellsing I favor dressing the chars in formal wear and uniforms but when I comes to Link I dress him in street stuff? Maybe it's because he looks good in it.
I hope you all enjoy. A better version if I do say so myself than the last urban Link pic I made named 'Classy'.

Link looks really good urban street style. And despite looking like you'd find cross paths with him in an alley, I think you'd more likely find him in a park, relaxing like this against a tree with his foot up on the back of a bench or something. This picture would just fit perfectly in that scene. Maybe add Saria and other Kokiri kids playing in the background with Malon or Zelda looking like they spotted Link and are headed towards him, giving the image he's glancing over this way searching for them.Β

Yes the hat cone would be changed since of the modernization. Instead of being as long as it had been before it would probably only touch down to the back of his neck.
I've gotten a lot of inquiries regarding Epona as a type of vehicle, so next time I plan to draw modern Link I will probably end up adding that in as well. I'm not so certain about a motorcycle though, it seems a tad bit redundant.

well, if you wanted it to be somewhat different you could do some sort of train, or some armos mech, or possibly some sort of flying device.

Don't get me wrong, I fancy the motorcycle idea, but for every modern Link submission that any artist has ever made, they all seem to use the same concept of using a motorcycle. Which makes sense I suppose-- since it would dominantly have the capability of speed and maneuverability over other vehicles. However, I've been playing with the idea of making Epona into a car instead, potentially with the side decals having a horse on the side of it. I feel a car would have durability.

hmm, perhaps, though I think you should make it an original car design, like the golden compass' carriages or some other more unusual design, perhaps make the car look like the master sword/fi! or maybe a goron.

This is awesome. I always wondered what Link would look like if he lived in a modern city.
I have a question though - how would you incorporate his weapons, his trusty steed and sidekick? I'd imagine he cannot prance around with a sword or on a horse or with a fairy.
My guess would be that the sidekick is some operator who talks to him via headset or something, instead of a horse or a boat he has a scooter, a bike or maybe even a skateboard and instead of a sword and shield he gets the Master Baseball Bat and.. I dont have anything that doubles as a shield, except maybe the skateboard again.

That's a very good question!
Where do I start?
Weapons: You're right about many of these items being out-modernized. If we were playing with parallels however I think that Link's primary sword would probably be replaced with a gun, we'd be going for common weapons that would be used during this time. Brass knuckles could be another weapon set, so that when he doesn't use range he uses hand-to-hand combat instead. So instead of a sword pistol wielding would probably become his new primary. Then we have his healing potions, it would probably go without saying that some sort of energy drink might replace this. Instead of a shield Link would then be equipped with a bullet proof vest. Or if you wanted to go the drastic route; a riot shield [though I don't really think it'd do him much good.]
Transportation: I have one thought about this and unfortunately everything else in comparison seems to be lacking elsewhere. Let's be realistic, Link isn't the Bruce Wayne of Hyrule. Everything that he owns has either been given to him by strangers or he's scavenged them from temples. So the thought of him owning a sweet car or a motorcycle right off the bat are kind of out of the question. Like the other LoZ games he'd probably be doing a good bit of his traveling on foot to begin with. We are talking a modern style Legend of Zelda though so much like in Ocarina of Time I could see him having to win a drag race for him to win the motorcycle of his dreams [coincidentally called Epona.]
Sidekick: I like the Oracle approach you had for the sidekick. But if we're going for other opinions I do have another in mind.
In general what is the sidekick good for? They don't fight, but they do just kind of sit there and give you helpful hints and tips from time to time. Which is why I could see Link instead having an app on his cellphone called 'Pocket Hero'. The app would pretty much do everything that the companion did. However in 'dungeons' and other common locations the Pocket Hero by default would mark treasures and vital locations on your map without the need of finding a compass. Pocket Hero would also have the capability of organizing your quests.

To be honest, Link being a gunslinger doesn doesnt sound too great to me. LoZ games are all about melee combat, not shooting. Likewise, close combat doesnt really suit the LoZ gameplay imho.
Link needs some sort of melee weapon. Alternative ideas of mine would be a crowbar, a large flashlight or even a broken pipe, but all of those sound way too ghetto mor my taste.
I like the idea of a bullet-proof vest as a shield replacement, and the potions being energy drinks is a good idea. Might be clichΓ©d, but it works perfectly.
A Motocycle with the crest of Hyrule on it would be badass. This is better than every idea I had. It makes getting through narrow side alleys harder, but damn it, he has feet. He can use them.
The 'Pocket Hero' is a good idea, better than someone sitting around doing nothing all day. I'd prefer it to be modular though - meaning you find the compasses and maps as .. dunno, software he can incorporate into his cellphone or as a drawing on a wall he could take a picture of or something.
The 'Pocket Hero' has one grave disadvantage though. Sidekicks give the gameplay a somewhat distinct personality. For example, I doubt Twilight Princess would have been the same without Midna's cocky comments. I doubt TWW would have been the same, hadn't the Whatshisface, Lion King constantly been in your back about Ganondorf. I'd like the 'Pocket Hero' to have something like a personality rather than just being a blunt organizing tool. Feeling lonely and shooting stuff are (or were) key elements of Metroid games.
