Description Oookay...
This was my first time in trying to add muscular anatomy to my picture with shades...I know it's not too good, but what am I supposed to do? I'm still practising daily, and it feels like it doesn't get any better. It's not easy finding your own style while you use copies for anatomy and posing...but at least I managed to add a bit more "structure". I don't want my turtles to look too 'androgyne'...
I'd gladly receive factual criticism and maybe some ideas how to make things better...

Oooh, and I wanna dedicate this picture to , for her "arts education" and patience with my pesky questions- love you, hun!!!

You really think so? I was a bit unpleased about Raph's eyes...but besides that, I think it's at least okay. I was happy I managed to add a bit muscle structure- but my shading is a bit confusing, I still don't know exactly where to add the shades...

With shading you need to designate where the light will be coming from. Like - the right, left, bottom, or top, of the picture. After that add your darker shades to the opposite side. Like - the light is coming from the left so the shadows will be on the right.

But above all else, just play with it. Play with the light and shades, because that way you'll learn faster.

Okay, I'll try that, thanks for the ideas. It's always good to hear someone else's opinion, especially when it's someone who has more experience.

Actually, I was always looking at other people's pictures until now, to find out what kind of shades could fit to my pictures. But that's rather confusing, because every artist has an own way to add shades...

Maybe I should play with the lamps in my appartment, to find out more about shading

Thanks!
I thought how he would react if someone as demanding as Raphael came over and tried to lay him. Surely Don would refuse first, trying to be the sensible and intellectual guy. But then....
I simply love Don as a shy guy, it makes him even sweeter than he is anyways.

I think you did quite well on this one, and hell, noone's perfect! How many pictures did you draw ntil now? Ten? I don't know how many years it took me to draw a decent looking picture....

to tell you the truth, your defiantly getting better, but don't feel the need to rush it, you'll get there eventually - with time all things will come great work, nice work with the muscles, and your right, it does give them better anatomy

Thanks a lot. Maybe I'm a bit impatient sometimes....but when I see all this drawing talent around me, makes me wanna become the next Picasso
Anatomy and moving is actually the most difficult part in drawing. That was one of the reasons why I only drew still lives and animals from magazines until now...

meh, its my job as a annoying, frustrating, and just plan old screwed-up critique is for and don't become Picasso... his dead, and I doubt any but the most helpless of people really want that .... but your right, anatomy and movement are generally the hardest parts of art, I mean, I generally just don't have the skill for drawing, so, I don't bother, but if you somehow feel obligated to drawing, then give your heart to it, and if you don't then there's no point in drawing at all, cos nobody else is going to get that emotion. As I've said to Eelayne, if you don't put the emotion into the art, then nobody can take it out, as the saying goes 'Can only take out what you or others put in'. so if your drawing, make sure its because you want to, not because someone else wants it
