We all knew of theorized that Alicorns were not born, or at least I did. There is no absolute way a Alicorn is simply born. However coming to achieve great feats for themselves and for others definitely stands out as a hallmark as to what a true champion or in this case Princess should be able to do. Hence the transformation (For all its worth as it only seems to add wings.) shouldn't be driving such a huge wedge between the community. She got wings, BIG FREAKIN DEAL. She didn't grow bigger or older, her magic isn't shown to be any greater because of it, rather she is now a symbol of what can be accomplished if you strive to do something that betters or benefits everyone.
In the long term stop over reacting guys, its still the same character now shes come full circle and is simple given a new title.

It's not that I'm upset by the change, I'm just afraid of what it could mean. Usually drastic changes like this come at the end of a series' lifespan, and I'm just afraid this change might shorten the series' lifespan by pigeonholing their potential plotlines.
But it's probably nothing to worry about. If I think about it logically, this is the most successful show Hasbro has ever had, ever, with the runner up probably not even having a quarter of its popularity. I think it's safe... I hope.

I'm familiar with it, yes. I'm also familiar with TV ratings (my previous job, as much as I hate to admit it.) The show doesn't really pull an audience. MLP destroys it up and down in nearly every demographic. [link]
I respect Transformers, but right now, MLP is creating tons of advertising revenue for Hasbro, besides the popularity of the toys. You can't argue with that.

Both, honestly. For the life of me, I don't see any NEED for Twilight to change species and yes, the bronies are over-blowing the issue.
My take is that "you have to become an alicorn to be a princess in Equestria" has all kinds of unfortunate implications.

Perhaps becoming an alicorn through whatever process in Equestria automatically triggers a consideration for princess-hood (as a title) by the crown? (Celestia would have approved Twilight for the title, of course, given Twilight's background.)
It's not necessarily any different from other titles granted by royalty through history. Twilight pulled off something major in the annals of magic, she's already got a personal relationship with the throne _and_ has participated in saving Equestria multiple times, and Celestia's pretty obviously been grooming her for ambassadorial roles as backup for Cadance, who in turn is backup for Celestia and Luna.
Being designated a Princess of Equestria is an obvious political step, and it's easy to pass off to the populace as being part and parcel of Twilight's new alicorn status.
