=o You should add the coloured version to your 'artists comment' so they would get an idea what she would look like with colour. ^.^

You're very critical of your drawings. But sometimes that can be a good thing. Perfectionism seems to suck most of the time though, huh?
I think this is gorgeous, though. Inspiring, even. I love the eyes and the jaw. Nice work.

You noticed..
It is what keeps me going, so yes, a good thing, although irritating too.
But really, if it is inspiring, that's all that it has to be.

It isn't THAT bad that the tattoos aren't symmetrical, I didn't notice it until I read your comment
I totally love that hair btw!

lol, that's what I do too When I tell people about what I like and don't like in a drawing they suddenly see it too. Oh well, I think most artists don't like their own work...

Rapsukka In reply to N0rks [2006-10-14 09:43:32 +0000 UTC]
It's because we know what isn't right, if we could see our works and not remember them and think they belong to someone else, I suppose we wouldn't see the mistakes

N0rks In reply to Rapsukka [2006-10-14 16:59:55 +0000 UTC]
Yeah I think so
I wish I could see my drawings like it were somebody else's. I hate basically everything I draw because I see everything that's wrong. It's particularly frustrating when your mom starts to tell you how amazing it is when you want to throw it away

I do know what you mean, even though my mum said nothing about my drawings, except "it's good" or something else in a monotonous tone. I don't think she ever figured out just what to say, because she has no artistic talent.
I always drew for the fun of it, I never really got praised for it. But at least I learned that it must be for me and only me

My mum has all my drawings sticked to the wall in our living room And everybody that enters goes like: "Ahhh, who can draw so well here?"
I always drew when I was younger, then stopped for a few years and now I'm picking it up again. I try to improve, but it's not really going very fast (also due to school )

Rapsukka In reply to N0rks [2006-10-15 12:33:15 +0000 UTC]
Well, I don't remember my drawings ever being on the wall, at least not put there by my mum. But it's nice that you're drawing again, you should try and draw more (I always used to draw at school, I wasn't really into studying much)
I don't know if it is appropriate for me to say, and you've probably already thought of this, but.. I'll say it anyhow. So when you draw, you could try and think of the things you draw in 3D, so that it'll become easier to see where you've gone wrong, that's why drawing without any reference is good practise. Sorry about all the blabbering

Oh, don't worry, you can talk as much as you want I talk a lot sometimes too, so I don't mind. I try to draw at school too, but I'm not as good as I want to be (lame reason), so mostly I think my doodles suck and stop drawing again. Not very good, I know...
I'll try that! I dunno if I tried it before, most of the time I just start drawing And I change the image in my head while I'm drawing, because I always want to do something different

Rapsukka In reply to N0rks [2006-10-16 08:20:40 +0000 UTC]
I can't blame you, I just start drawing too and it starts to change into something completely different as it develops
It takes a concious effort to keep to the original idea

N0rks In reply to Rapsukka [2006-10-16 11:04:53 +0000 UTC]
Yeah, that's very hard Especially when the thing that you want to draw doesn't go the way you want it, so you want to think of something else, but you can't
(confusing story
)

Call of Cthulhu? They made a video game out of that. Never played it though, I think I didn't have the right system or high enough specs for my computer.
But you are on a roll Rapsukka. And the tatoo "mistake" isn't noticable. I had to count the lines twice before I noticed they weren't symmetrical. Lol. (BTW, love the hair. ^_^ )

Thanks . As I have said before, I am my worst enemy when it comes to my drawings. I already know the weak points; perfectionism is no fun..

From the previous comment I now remember what was so familiar with this style of yours; H.P. Lovecraft!
Though the Call of Cthulhu is the only book I've read of him. Although a very old book it's still one of the best horror stories ever made.
Great drawing! But theres something with the eyes that looks... odd.

Thanks, but the eyes look odd?.. hmm, maybe because they are asymmetrical, and she has no eyelashes. Or maybe her eyes are too pale?

Maybe it's just because my wife is reading a book by her, but this brings to mind the H.P. Lovcraftian writing of Caitlin Kiernan to me. It's truly a fascinating work, though...don't scrap her!

Nah, used too much time on her to put her in scraps
H.P. Lovecraft? Heard the name, but Caitlin Kiernan definately says nothing to me
I'm happy that you like it

ravenstromdans In reply to Rapsukka [2006-10-13 17:58:40 +0000 UTC]
H.P. Lovecraft was the originator of the 'X-Files' style of writing, where one poses a number of supernatural questions in a tale that are either never answered...or answered in an unspeakably horrible way for the protagonist. (most of his protagonists either were eaten or went mad) Caitlin Kiernan, an author with a great amount of respect for Lovecraft, writes in a very similar fashion, but uses more young women as her protagonists and tends to be even more elusive about finding resolutions in her tales. I recommend her if you want to be enormously frustrated by having the explanations of the event in her tales left to your own dark imaginings.

Ok, so that's what this is all about, it's just funny to hear that my works are alike with a writers works.
Since I don't really know the writer or his books, I think I'll just take it as a compliment.. Maybe I should try to read some of his books then . Although very fascinated by horror, I am also very sensitive to horrormovies, books and all that. I don't see any of my drawings as scary

Caitlin Keirnan has a slightly different slant on horror than her predecessor; I may be misinterpreting her work, but it seems to me that she sees beauty in horror and several times in her works that I've read has visited and revisted the idea of something can be so evil or horrifyingly different that it actually becomes beautiful in the mind's eye.
