Bolt and Mittens have been captured by an unknow assailant, who tied them up inside of a tube and held them up in at a very high distance inside of his compartment. He also gagged them with muzzles so they couldn't alert anyone of their destination. The person who kidnapped them was planning to sell them for the highest bidder. He knew that Bolt used to be the former star of the famous TV show about the super dog. There would be plenty of people who would want to pay money for him. Mittens was just a bonus; she just so happens to be at the wrong place at the wrong time. She was used as leverage so Bolt would surrender himself, which he did without hesitation much to Mittens' dismay.

Now, the two could only struggle futilely against the tube, and hope that someone would save them. Bolt hated the feeling of being helpless and being dependent on someone else to save him. He also felt guilty that Mittens was in danger and he couldn't save her. Moments like this made him miss not having his "powers" anymore. She had become his best friend over this past year due to how se helped him adjust to real word, and always being there for him even when he didn't ask her to. It made him miserable to see her in this position. Mittens, meanwhile, felt guilty that Bolt surrendered because of her. She cared a lot about him. Over this past year, he had become her best friend due to how he gave her a new family that loved her. She had also realized that she had develop feelings for him, as much as it was a deviant romance. Right now, Mittens just wanted to tell him how she felt about him, but her attempts were unfortunately muffled by the muzzle gagging her. The only thing that the two could do was give each other physical comfort by nuzzling each other. The two looked at each other worriedly, while pressing their heads affectionately for emotional support.

Bolt and Mittens is one of my favorite ships of all time. When I watched "Bolt" for the first time, I was upset because nothing happened between the two of them at the end of the film. While I know that it was improvable that a romance would ensued between them, I was still disappointed that there was no real resolution to their relationship, and to the argument that they had. Their relationship was my favorite thing about the film, and it was objectively one of the strongest aspects of it, so it really annoyed me that their relationship and Mittens' arc were glossed over in favor of Bolt rescuing Penny. While it is true that finding Penny was driving plot of the film, Mittens should have had a major focus at the climax, specially since she was the deuteragonist. A good example of that would be the film "Rio." The driving plot is similar, but the deuteragonist's arc and relationship to the protagonist actually has a manageable conclusion

Because I was desperate in finding anything about Bolt and Mittens' relationship, I searched all the DVD features to see if there were any deleted scenes with them. I stumbled upon the "Super Rhino" short film, which, to my disappointment, had Bolt bound and gagged in a tube with Penny. That just helped cement the focus on Penny and Bolt. On top of that, Mittens barely appeared on it. While it made sense why they were the only two that were kidnapped on the short, I think that there could have been an argument for Mittens being there. It could have been used as a way to prove that Rhino has accepted Mittens as a friend. Subjectively speaking, I would have liked to see Mittens with a muzzled.

As you can see from this art, here Mittens is actually bound and gagged with Bolt on a similar scenario to the one from the short film. And unlike the short, the two captives are actually interacting with each other.

While the story I wrote is short, I am open to hearing any objective constructive criticism.
