Please download for full size image~Once again -another- temporary reference for this girl, I will stop messing with her one day but today is not that day (fear it?!)
She looks completely different this time round, I decided to bite the bullet and make her small, thin and dainty as opposed to medium weight and bulk. I've also changed her base animal from an Eastern Bluebird to a Blue Morpho Butterfly . I simply loved those blue hues framed in black. So I poked around for a bit of inspiration and eventually settled on a Magpie type of wing/feather framing. They're evil birds but they're pretty. So her body is more or less plain white now bar the blues on her back. Nice and simple I think c:
So thats about it really, I know she is missing things such as her wing pinion feathers and spine selection, but if I dont upload her now I will just keep picking and picking at her whike getting nothing of any importance done..whhhhyyyyyy~!
Also this a rush job, please no critiques regarding colouring or lines!
Her body is a re-used image of my own and her wings we're referenced from images located on a Google search.
Forcing this computer to upload makes it angry! Rageaholic computer!

Luara, Your Line-art is something to be hold, I'm dead serious! If you ever finally Make a Complete ref sheet of the girl i want to have first dibs to see her if that's okay? :> Wow, Just... Wow! The combination of these two critter it simple yet elegant. XD it make me want to redo the speedpainting i did all ready. This it the main reason I adore blue, <3 it like simple royalty that can't be brought only found that which is rare. X3 Like your character is.

OOOOH RA SHE LOOKS LOVELY <3 The combination of magpie and those butterflies is perfect. Also I concur that, although awesome, Magpies are jerks. I saw an Aussie one just pounce on this poor little crested dove and rip out a hunk of feathers D8 They're still so cool but so nasty!
I miss seeing Avian stuff around. I need to draw more Tabby.

Oh indeed, one tried to peck at our guinea pig through his cage bars (we chased it off of course) and aw poor dove! I agree, beautiful but horrible at the same time xD

do you do the outside lines and tiny details like scales all on same layer or use multiple?

Yes of course, I'm actually pretty messy when it comes to my sketches, I tend to have little bits all over the place but most of the time I put my scales and details on a separate layer. When I do lineart I make sure to do this properly and have lineart, then scales and then details all on separate layers c:

ahh thank you. line art iv really been struggling with lately.. i cant get my lines to be smooth. any tips for that? or just takes practice of a steady hand?

I'm not sure actually, I work in little strokes with a 3px brush so that my lines stay semi-consistant, but I have met people who simply put the pen down and draw long sweeping lines before removing the pen again. I dont recommend the second method because you've never quite get the same control as you would with little strokes, also hands jitter c: Try little overlapping strokes and see if it helps?

She looks so light, and able for flight <3 I really love the new design. Simple, elegant, and eye-catching.
I have always liked Blue Morpho's and as soon as I saw Iio, I said, "YAY, MORPHO BUTTERFLY!!"
I was originally thinking of using magpies as a base for the wings of my OC (and I still may, actually) I just love the way they fly, and how the wings have solid white marks that 'flash' in flight c: They are a malicious bird, but they're so pretty <3
