Description
This was supposed to be a Christmas present for Renokye , but I was too excited about it to hold on to it for that long.I made a sprite of her character Noel. I tried for a while to stick to the 16 color limit, but I just couldn't make it look good

Awesome work! I used to make pixel characters way, way, long ago, back on this site called Gaia. Couldn't do proportions very well, much less clothing properly. But you're really good at this. Actually looks professionally done.

Thanks so much!
I remember Gaia, I made an account because of a friend I had just met (said friend is now my wife, haha) but I never did anything on there.
Pixel art is something I've always wanted to be good at, but it's really tough. I've been slowly trying to learn by contributing to this one fan game I've been a part of for a while - particularly, editing the existing sprites of the characters to make new moves for them. I also really enjoy ripping the sprites from various games, and I didn't realize until I had been doing it for a while that it was helping me study how pixel art is done.
I feel like I still have a long way to go, but thank you Someday I want to animate this.

Yeah, I dare not go on Gaia anymore. Full of young middle schoolers or high schoolers... children. I feel old when I think about that site.
I used to want to animate stuff too, also because of Gaia, and I found this one gif animator where all you had to have was the different images and it'd put them together and you cold do several things with it, but for the life of me, I can't remember the name. I do image, though, that there's a lot better animators out there now.

It looks really good. I never tried making pixel art. Looks hard.

Thanks! It is pretty difficult, especially if you're trying to add in little details (I had a tough time with the staff head). Even something this small took me 3 hours to finish. But hopefully I can get better at it because it's actually pretty fun. I want to do a bunch of characters like this, and maybe even animate them.

Well you are better at it than I am XDΒ
That sounds pretty cool. I was interested in animation for a wile, but never tried it.Β

It's something I've always wanted to be good at, but it's challenging and time consuming. I've always wanted to make a game, and have several half-finished ideas for RPGs and stuff, but there's only so much I can do if I can't make the graphics.
I have done some pixel art before, but it wasn't much. There is a fan game I've been contributing to where I've made a few sprites for existing characters to give them additional moves and things like that, but that is mostly modifying existing sprites, so it's a lot easier.

I was going to try and help someone with similar project, but he never actually got to making the RPG at all. That would have been the reason for me to start making pixel Β art, but never got to it. I think the guy gave up before even starting.
To me it all sounds complicated XD

Well yeah, that's the other problem . It's hard to stick with a big project like that - sometimes I just lose my motivation, or my interests change, and it no longer seems like as big a deal as it was. I do have a fighting game that I've been working on for over a year, but I always take huge breaks from it because it's difficult work and I don't always have the time. It's perfectly functional and has several playable characters, although it's not as polished as I'd like. But it's a fan game as well, and I'm using existing graphics entirely.

Sounds like me when it comes to making comics. I always wanted to make one, even had a story written, but I never actually got past the cover art and some character design sketches. XDΒ

I did the same thing when I was younger, although I think I made a few pages. I don't think those papers exist anymore, and I certainly hope they don't
I admire anyone who's able to keep going with a comic.

Haha That is one of the reasons I chose to write instead. It's easier in a way. I am not very good at drawing environment and stuff like that so I'd have a lot of trouble with comics.
Yeah me too. And some people do it for a living.

I can't do scenery either. And I really like doing writing instead of drawing for assignments and stuff, I find it easier as well.
I can't imagine doing these kind of things for a living, they'll always just be hobbies for me. It's hard enough finding an audience interested enough to pay for it, but then if you lose your inspiration (which happens to me all the time), what do you do? Force yourself to be creative?

Sometimes I do both writing and drawing. Depends on how inspired I get to draw. And how good the drawing turns out XD I wasn't happy with the snowman drawing I made for Myri's assignment.
Yeah same here. I used to study to become a chef/waitress/restaurant owner and I met chefs that told me they loved cooking but once it became a job and there were rules it wasn't as fun anymore. And lacking inspiration is a common issue for me as well. I can try forcing myself, sometimes I did XD But those drawings didn't end up very good.Β

I thought the snowman looked pretty good, for what it's worth
I know exactly what you mean. I'm doing a bunch of drawings for Christmas presents (besides this one) and I'm having a hard time motivating myself to do them all. Mostly because I put it off for a long time and I have to do a bunch. Fortunately, I get to do what I love at work and can generally do things at my own pace.

Thank you Β
Well usually around Christmas I actually have to force myself to draw if I want to finish in time, otherwise I will have to delay posting the drawing a whole year.Β
That's great! It makes me happy (for some reason) to see other people enjoy their jobs.Β
