I'm amused by how she wrote that he likes onions so much he got used to them even through his sensitive sense of smell. (I have a sensitive nose. Onions? No way to stand them!)

Oh, I agree completely. Strong smells are nearly impossible to get used to...perhaps it is the way Niko is bothered by his dining choices that helped him get used to it? Nothing like getting a reaction out of an older sibling to keep doing it.
