Outside of the game's main hub city encounters in Dungeonfist are randomly generated by the game's dungeon deck. Not all encounters are hostile monsters, however. Sometimes adventurers can find hero statues that bless the party, portals to the healing spring which serves as the game's version of the short rest mechanic, or friendly NPC's that offer the party assistance. A fan favorite among these NPC's is the goblin merchant. He typically shows up late in a dungeon crawl offering the party a chance to resupply, pawn off some of the treasure they've collected, and sometimes offers rare and powerful magic items for sale. His orcish assistant also provides some well appreciated eye-candy.

Of course this being an MMO there's always someone who gets the big idea to try and rob the merchant. New players are frequently surprised to find out that in addition to carrying his wares and drawing in customers with her looks the orc slave girl who accompanies him also acts as his protector. It turns out that a woman who spends all her time wandering dangerous environments while bound and naked while carrying hundreds of pounds of gear is probably pretty good at defending herself and her kicking ability is brutal. It's become something of a meme among the veteran players that she's killed more inexperienced players than most of the game's bosses.
