I never found rigging and setting bonus to be issue. Just adding the weight and links is bit awkward in Blender. Like having a proper chart to see what link to where properly would make it faster and easier. I think Maya got one of those.

Rigify does well for animation but creates way too many unnecessary bones for game development and having to delete all those extra is a pain. I think I'm going to take a look at this.

What's the difference of this over tools like the blender internal auto-rigging? That one uses bone heat and connectivity if I'm not mistaken. But I always rig by hand anyways so I don't know how much the progress on these tools is.

Hey LordOfDragons,

This will be a 2 - 3 step solution where you just load a valid mesh and the tool will do the rigging for you with auto-weight painting. No need for bone alignment or positioning although I'm planning to add a point based system eventually for fine-tuning and customization.

What exactly is the definition of "valid mesh"? And you can't provide a rig on your own, is that right?

Valid mesh is like without non-manifolds, n-gons, etc. Check out MeshLint for more info

Yes, since this project is still experimental it only provides a default rig but there is a possibility to use other common (half-life, secondlife) or custom rigs in the future.

Thanks for the info. Let's see how this develops then.

I've been a long term user of Blender (from version 2.35) but haven't really used it for animation in a few years. Your auto-rigging tool looks really great!
Keep up the good work.
