Description
Stand clear! Calliope is taking off.Calliope's Book is a story about a little white cat who lives in a forested world of rusting mechanical chipmunks and shining metal wings.
What's particularly special about the image?
1. For a digital image, this is truly huge: 18 x 24 inches @ 600dpi. I'm a former pre-press designer and strive to make my work look particularly great when printed.
2. Look close! This image contains parasignals !

I really like the heavy lines in this, it give the cats pose and the pic a more dynamic feel. Things feel like there moving. Wonderful job on this.

Very nice Love the pose the cat is in, and love the creativeness of the whole thing.

Thanks! The pose was developed after thinking about how Calliope would look if she was really motivated to leap into the sky. Her line of action -- an uncoiling spring -- naturally seemed to determine the composition and inclusion of everything else.

Thanks! Determining the right way to apply color was one of the most difficult decisions with this piece. To emphasize the dynamism of the central figure, I chose blue hues for the background and parts of the overstressed wing pack. The red and orange were brought in to heighten the drama and provide a visual cue linking this character to previous paintings in which she is featured.

Thank you -- I'm flattered! (Possibly there are some stylistic echoes in the palette, broad areas of flat color, and prominent pen?)

Glad you like! The left leg is highly forshortened... and I might have gotten a little overzealous with the line work there.
(Might go back for another pass once I get some distance from it...)

Thanks! I think Calliope stole all my energy -- I'm exhausted!
