Volume 9 left me with a lot of questions than answers. Jaune becoming the Rusted Knight for no reason. Alyx betraying him for no reason. And him and cats beef was well non existent.

In my head, I don't mind Jaune going back in time to see Alyx and Lewis but not be their Rusted Knight. More of being stranger and soon to be friend they meet on the way. Jaune at first didn't want to interfere with story, however he knew waiting for team RWBY would be pointless if he had no way out. Jaune chooses to travel with them in order to find a way home.

Here Jaune discovers how far the story was from reality as Jaune starts seeing Alyx in a whole new light as she makes his journey far more difficult than needed. Jaune however still has connection to her though despite their arguments. He even makes enemies of the Every After as they Jabberwocky and the White Knight were after him. He now must fight to survive and keep Alyx and Lewis alive in order to find way home. All while getting over Penny's death and his weakness.

Jabberwocky wants to kill Jaune due to not belonging in the Ever After. At first Jaune could have killed him however Jaune due to Penny's death hesitated, causing the Jabberwocky to escape. The second time was when it was about kill Alyx and Lewis only for Jaune to stand in its way. Jaune still hesitating couldn't even try to hurt it. The Jabberwocky took advantage and was close to killing Jaune until Alyx saved him. Third time was at paper forest as it was following their trail. Fourth and final time was in the Ponder Storm. Jaune after getting over Penny's death and accepted it, finally fight and defeats it in battle. The Jabberwocky feared Jaune and runs away to never bother him again

The White Knight on other hand finds Jaune to be an obstacle as he stands between him and the cat. After witnessing the Jabberwocky's close defeat by Jaune, the White Knight was impressed. However Jaune, due Alyx's schemes soon become Knight's target. They're first fight Jaune lost due to fear. Second fight Jaune was defending the cat who the White knight was targeting. They fought this time ending in a draw. The third and final battle the Knight unleashed his full power. Jaune with a bit stabled mind fought well and almost killed him. However after saving Lewis once Jaune asked the Knight questions. Which he politely answers. Jaune soon was trained by the White Knight and then inherit his mission.
