Description
South Side of Pittsburgh. There are a lot of very odd elements in this photograph, from strange colors to near perfect symmetry to random geometric shapes. Taken of the new South Side Works project on 28th street or so.Aperture: 3.5

pretty awesome shot, you shoulda clipped the left side off a lil more to get it pefect though. Love the concept though!

I definately agree that this should be perfectly symmetrical. Thus I have worked on it and should submit it shortly. I just wanted to, for once, actually take a picture of something that didn't need ANY manipulation. Still working on that

I do like this photo quite a bit. Nice emphasis on lighting and geometry. Those shadows are very nice. Just the right amount of sky, too. I think I would like to see a more perfectly symmetrical version, this kind of shot seems to beg for that kind of precision But overall, very nice.

I am currently (albeit very slowly) working on a perfectly symmetrical version. I'm skewing the picture just a bit to compensate for the tilt of the shot, then I'm going to cut half of the picture and flip it in photoshop. It's cheating, I know, but my question is...who's going to know unless I tell them. Thanks for the honest comments.

No such thing as cheating in art At least, as long as you don't lie to people when they ask about your process

dude, thats awsome, what with the simple symmetry and the contrasting of the colors...i really like it man, good work

Thanks man. I worked on a perfectly symmetrical version. I'm deciding whether or not to submit it.

Strangley disorientating but wicked all the same... Perhaps the 3rds would be better without the last light on the left. As everyone else has said great colours.

I see what you mean by the last light on the left. You can just see where the inset light is casting another circular glow, where there's not so much of that glow on the right side. If I do get the urge, I'll try to make it perfectly symmetrical.

Sorry... Pedantic here! (I bet that isn't how you spell it!!)

nice shot...the bright blue sky with the dark building is very nifty. you seem to be learning more about cameras instead of just the digital ones...nice job!

"just the digital ones" My digital camera is an SLR dear, and I shot a film SLR before that. I just HATE paying for prints/good film. Digital seems to cut out the middle man. It's still expensive if you do your own darkroom work. I figure, if you can go digital with all the power of a film SLR, why not?
/me is just ranting because he doesn't know darkroom technique yet.
ANYWAYS.... thanks a lot jackie!

Not at all...that picture came straight from the camera directly to photoshop (only to add the border) There was no extra saturation nor hue changes. (It may have been the tungsten filter on the camera...)

Hmm... it took forever for this picture to load in full view. I think Duquesne fears competition from the South Side and is taking it out on me by making my connect slow... or something like that.
Anyway, this is one of the coolest things I've seen from you in a while. I really like the shapes, shadows, and colors. It's a unique approach to a piece of Pittsburgh architecture that hasn't been around long enough to be over done yet.
I really wish it was perfectly symetrical, though. It'd be a bit of a cheat, but I think you should try sheering, rotating, and cropping to get it perfect.

I was thinking about the sheering, etc, but the fact of the matter is, I don't really care. I don't have the time like i used to to do stuff like that. I may do a bit of work on it and submit for the mag, but other than that, anyone who would want to undertake the task of making it symmetrical can feel free
Thanks Kim! and continue to have fun

Very nice! Excellent usage of shape and symmetry, and I love the colors! The depth of field is great too! The shadows being cast by the railings are really cool as well. Great work!!

Thanks a ton dalai. This was originally an assignment for the school newspaper that I decided to take a step further and use as an "artistic venture". I took the shots over a month ago and forgot about them (glad I dragged them back out though.) Much love and thanks again!

I'm more in awe that I was able to pull it off without any photoshopping (The building will is pretty much not going anywhere... as in anyone with a camera could replicate it) Sorry for not giving myself much credit, but thank you anyways

Thanks Teknik. The colors were all there, waiting to be captured (well, except for the blue sky, that doesn't happen often in pittsburgh)
