There's a new ship in town.I so loved Rarity's dress in the Scootaloo episode, I just had to draw her in it. And AJ appeared almost by itself in this piece.

This is great, but I found an easy-to-fix error:
Chaps protect legs against abrasive brush. AppleJack is a quadruped, so the brush would shread her forelimbs unless she hears chaps on all 4 legs. It should be easy enough to fix.

And thanks for the critique! I agree with you, that the design like that doesn't make much sense in a practical sense. It's intentional though, because I don't like the look of chaps on all four legs. It's not the first time I've drawn her in chaps, the very first time I tried the design with all four legs, but I wasn't happy with it, so I took some inspiration from other artists, changed the picture and finally choose to only give her hindlegs chaps from now on.

Your words make sense; the ponies and their whole geocentric universe is surreal. It makes sense that the way they dress should be surreal too ββ just dressing is surreal. Surrealness along with escapism is the appeal of the show:
The universe is so different from ours that we can escape into it. The ponies are much less violent than us. Sure, every now and then, we have the occasional Sombre or the Mare in the Moon, NightMare Moon, but what makes these noteworthy are their Rarity.
Being omnivores, humans have cravings for animals. Most humans give into these cravings. Being empathetic, most humans feel guilt about eating animals. The ponies, being vegetarians, do not have this problem.
Placental mammals have to reline their uteri so that the embryos have a fresh lining whither to embed. Humans have to expel the old uterine lining; this is messing, uncomfortable, and sometimes painful. Equines evolved the ability to recycle their uterine linings, thus avoiding menstruation.

This makes me want to cry. Joyfully cry, that is. I don't know what it is about it, but it's just so...so...perfect. The whole "different backgrounds" mantra, along with one of my favorite pairings, and such amazing artwork depicting the two lovesick ponies...it's just so awe-inspiring and touching and beautiful. I noticed that the pic is divided into 2 parts : the applejack side with the field and the rarity side with the flowers.
Then I noticed that the apple tree was on the rarity side
I figured out it was a great way to show the little something that is emerging between our two lovelies

Aww, this is so adorable. Not caring for all those "Rarijack" shippings, everytime I see these 2 together I am reminded of me and my mum, who I can only meet once every 6 months. I like Applejack while my mum loves Rarity. Seeing images like these remind me of the times when we still lived together under the same roof, before she had to move to another state.

Don't worry I won't draw Flutterdash, because I don't see this ship work. At all. Rarijack on the other hand has some qualities that make them work, somewhat at least. It's still an "opposites attracts" thing, yes. But in a good way. I do agree that a relationship that's just based on opposites doesn't work. But Rarity and AJ both have some overlapping qualities and they to complement each other in some instances. You have to have the right opposites, y'know? Just like Appledash.
This picture, for me, isn't part of the same headcanon as my Ask Appledash. Because I really don't like the idea of Applejack cheating on Rainbow. It's a different headcanon, where some things have played out differently. Maybe AJ and RD never came together or they did and it didn't work out, I don't know. But since I'm somewhat romantic this way, I quite like the idea of a strong, beautiful and unique romantic relationship. So Rarijack couldn't really happen in the same headcanon instance as Appledash. (Well besides a polyamoric Rarijackdash-thing, I suppose. But that would be something entirely different again. I need to draw something like that.)
But that's the great thing about fictional universes and shipping and stuff, you don't have to be die-hard about only one possibility, you can explore all kind of theories that are fun for you! Right?

I totaly agree with you (in general...because I AM die-hard about appledash), thats even the greatest quality of the fandom and thats why we have so much great pony art
I never was the kind of guy who whines much about other ships and i never will be. I also would never start a shipwar or something like that. In fact, in the german appledashthread its almost always me who calmes down the people if they say something about other pairings.
And i know there is artistic freedom. You are doing it for yourself, for fun and not to please other people. Im even not an artist, so i won't even think about telling you what to draw.
BUT (yeah, of course there is a "but" ^^)
But, you already may have noticed that i am a little maniac and can get touchy when it comes to appledash 
And especially because you were a major reason for my appledash-craze, i just cant stop staring at your recent picture, thinking: "No? What? No. Seriously? No! Rarijack? Nooooooooooooooooooooo!"
Its just....i always thought you are as crazy about appledash as i am. It made me feel less freaky xD
It became a huge part of my life, so i never could get bored of them. Though, i see it from the view of an art-consumer. Im sure if i would draw them as much as you did, i also would get bored sooner or later. But i never could jump from ship to ship this easily. I never could tear apart this particular, wonderful couple like that. I always feel sorry for them when i see or read them with others, because nothing fits better than appledash......they would be way less happy with another pony.
So, i am fine with every ship, as long as AJ and Dash aren't involved. Thats just impossible, thats...thats blaspheming!
I know im sounding like a freak to you, but i think we just have completely different priorities in our headcanon
Or more specifically, i always stick to my one and only headcanon

Its just... im too obsessed by appledash. It the most important and pleasing part of the fandom for me. It became a subfandom for me. People always tell me i am reading too much into it....im soooo unbelievable merged into the two of them <3

I've always been a fan of the Rarijack pairing myself. I'm not against AppleDash, but I'm not a supporter either. I'm not going to say it's a bit of a cliche to pair the two most tomboyish girls together, because then I'd be a hypocrite (a tomboyish pony and a very feminine pony being my favorite ship).
