Exactly today a year ago I posted my first My Little Pony fanart. Through the overwhelming response I got, I decided to draw more and became the artist I'm today. So much has changed in that short year for me. Not only has my style changed completely, but I also feel way more comfortable drawing. And I'm in general a way happier person, though that's not only because of this incredibly awesome community, but you all certainly had a big part in it.
So, as today is my "MLP fanart anniversary", I decided to redraw this piece that started it all. I tried to stay as close to the original as possible, but I just had to give Dashie AJs hat.
Funnily enough, the new one was done in a way shorter time than the first one. I really improved a lot. I hope today in a year the improvement will be even more distinct.

This is exactly what I learned in art class years ago. Draw something 100 times and you will literally see how much youve improved from one to the next.

I'm not a fan of MLP but i have to say that i love how you used your own style instead of the MLP style for the improvement, i think that would've been improvement enough but i love the way you colored this as well and added the lighting and shadows too ^-^

I prefer Dashie's hair, eyes, and mouth in the original, but her hoof size is a lot better in the new piece, and while I think the wings are a tad too large in the new version, the anatomy makes much more sense than the first. I also think Applejack looks a lot better/ a lot more sultry in the new one, so that's a plus. :3
One thing I think would make the new noticeably better; make the eyes a teensy bit larger. They're fine as it is, but widening them a tad would make them more than fine.

And that's okay, it took me almost a year to realize that I'm happy with my own style, especially because I LOVE the cartoon-style and adore all the artists that draw in it. I often wondered what were if I had chosen the same route. Sometimes I even felt a little bit of regret, that I've went my own way and that I didn't stay close to the style of the show.
So I can certainly see why people like the show-style more.

I simply worship your own style, especially the way in which you are drawing eyes.
But the canon style is for me hmmmmm "natural"? Or something like this. Not sure.

Oh wow, hadn't even noticed the hat switch until you pointed it out. Maybe I'm just oddly used to seeing AJ's hat on Dash. It just works on her.
But yeah, that's a lot of improvement between the two pictures. You've gotten really good at this.
