Killing him is what he wanted. If you kill him, you give in and he wins and dies satisfied with himself. I still believe in him because of who he was but when I spared him, it was just as much out of spite as it was out of kindness.

I can relate. When I finally beat that boss, I had to spend a good five minutes trying to make myself spare him. Because I really, REALLY wanted to see him dead.
