Description
My Shadow Days Are Over NowWon the Times Photo Journal Landscape Photography Contest, October 2012.
There I was, standing amidst the heaven, soaking in that fresh air, thanking god for this most amazing day, for the leaping greenly spirits of trees, and for the blue dream of sky and for everything which is natural, which is infinite, which is yes.
Hard times have helped me see. I’m a good man with a good heart, had a tough time, got a rough start. But I finally learned to let it go, now I’m right here and I’m right now. And I’m open knowing somehow, that my shadow days are over, my shadow days are over now…
You guys should definitely hear this song Shadow Days by John Mayer if you haven’t as of yet. Oh yeah, about this shot, it was taken at Bijli Mahadev, Himachal Pradesh, India, 7800ft above the sea level. And this wasn’t just one shot, it is a 120 megapixel panorama made by clubbing together eight photographs.

Now this is what India's about not the Orient nor Slumdog Millionaire!. I've had a look at some of your photos and what I really fail to understand is the surreal element, for instance, the clouds in this picture are really 'photogenic' if I may! Did clicking this involving waiting or some photography mod? I hope this isn't noob-ish, I love your work and I'm kinda into photography myself so I want to learn more!

Usually I prefer capturing landscapes with different exposures and club them together later, a HDR basically. This one took a lot of effort, as this a 6 frame panorama and then each frame is a combination of 3 different exposures
Moreover clicking in RAW format helps a lot if you're into post-processing, otherwise don't bother, it'll only eat up valuable space. JPEG is already a compressed format, editing JPEG images will only degrade the quality further. Post-processing RAW images is easier and a more non-destructive or subtle way to give those finishing touches to your photographs. Here, clicking in RAW helped me remove the noise I had near the clouds, which is why they appear clean and have a glow about them.

You know, it wasn't long before I started taking my photography a bit more seriously, started looking at a lot of youtube tutorials, clicking a lot more, experimenting more and I'm nowhere near to being a pro, but I'm learning all the time because I like it. It doesn't feel like I'm putting an effort into it, or it seems like I'm working. Just make it your hobby and invest time into it, and I'm sure you'll end up learning more than I have so far.

your landscapes are amazing, I need some technical lessons from you. I have Olympus E500, with 14-40mm and 40-150 mm lense

Hey, you've got a great camera and a wide angle lense too, which makes it perfect for landscape photography.
I'm a hobbyist myself, the only advice I can give is to click with a short aperture like a f/9 or higher. And to really capture the expanse of the surroundings you can make a panorama of 6 or more shots and club them later in photoshop. Remember to shoot in manual mode and keep the settings like shutter speed and aperture same through the various shots for the panorama.
And honestly landscapes speak for themselves, you're not gonna capture an amazing shot until and unless what you see in front of you is amazing itself, so explore, keep a keen eye on what nature has to offer and let your creativity shine through.

Hey donna, it's always so nice to see you around. Yup that is a tent, some people actually camp here while trekking, although I wonder how 'coz it can get really cold, -5C at night during the summers.
And and song, sigh, it's been one of recent favorites, glad you liked it too. And you have to take that trip! There's nothing more refreshing that seeing that infinite horizon all around you. Thanks a bunch again.
