I wouldn't have uploaded this photo was it not for M. Ward's strangely meditative song called "dead man" from the album Transfiguration Of VincentIt starts out:
Dead man, dead man don't cry
Dead man, dead man don't cry, don't cry,
When you die it ain't the end,
it ain't the end when you die.
Any of you remember the childhood mystery what lies beyond the horizon? I love how children has no concept of death nor eternity. Ignorance is bliss, yes sir!

I like the way the light hits from the front. You can see the color of his hair and that highlight on his cheekbones that I swear he's smiling. STrong sense of his shadow. And the pattern of the water washingup on the shore is consistent and crisp to the end of the horizon.
I also like the hint of something breaking through the sky in the top left corner. It may be extremely subtle but I feel it adds to how one would feel about the photo. Unconscious free-wheeling feeling.

i love the simplicity of the photograph. there is only one focal point. no other objects that clutter the view. it makes it easier for the eyes since it can merely focus on the boy, the main subject matter.
i also commend you for your use of colours. it is not overly colourful, which can sometimes be distracting. the colours used here convey a sense of calmness and just a laid-back attitude towards life. the colours plus the silhouetted figure of the boy heightens the overall feeling of the piece. it's also nice that the photograph is crisp, with no noticeble grain. it really helps in this piece.
as for my personal perspective on the photograph, i love the expression on the boy's face. he just seems genuinely happy to be in that place. i think you've captured perfectly the unique gift that children have, on how they see the beauty in the world around us. looking at the photograph, it feels as if the boy has no worries, merely greatful of being in that particular environment, in being in this world. he's not stressing out on anything, just overwhelmed with joy with his life.
the photograph is really simple but i think you've captured it in a way that makes it more than that. i touches me in an emotional level. probably since it reminds me so much of my childhood, where everything back then seemed much more intriguing than they are now.

Love the texture of the sand, and the vignette. Gives it a surreal look, as if it's something I'm remembering, not viewing. How do you get the colors and contrast to look metallic like this?

gorgeous, very well executed - i love the contrast, and the lighting that defines the delicate detailes of the boy's physical structure. i love the atmosphere throughtout the picture, its somewhat magical - it somehow reminds me of peter pan..
