Description
"A foreigner from fielded landsWith prairie thoughts of desert sands
Who'd never seen a wood of oak,
He came to visit forest folk.
And in surprise he only sees
The mighty oaks and cypress knees,
Begged, "Someone will you help me please?
I cannot see the forest for the trees."
So I, a common forest folk,
Rustled in the leaves and spoke,
"Don't look into the wooden faces
Searching for the forest places;
Wander with the scented breeze,
Past mighty oaks and cypress knees,
Forget the timber your eye sees;
Our forest is the space between the trees." - Thomas James Allen

Hey Lars!
To be honest, the second i opened this picture i was pleasantly shocked to see two things:
1. 'the foreigner' is possibly one of your most engaging photographs, apart from my all time favourite of yours 'People Die Alone' (but honestly, who doesn't like that one..?)
2. Your photograph was finally on the daily top favourites section on the main page, and that is evident when i realised that you had over 153 favourites!
I personally think that it is amazing that you are finally getting the exposure you have deserved for a long time, but i do hope that you still will remember me, now that you have a herd of rabid fans willing to do anything you command them to.
Now on to the photograph...
-The photograph as a whole is as usual oh a very high quality.
-It manages to convey multiple emotions and feelings to the viewer.
-The contrast between the foreigner and the well, 'local' forest is amongst the best contrast i have ever had the chance to come across on the web.
Well i guess that is it for now,
Qayser Hequet ( ~happymage )
P.S. Glad to see that you are a subscriber, i think i might treat myself to one for the holidays.

It reminds me a DepecheMode' video: 'One caress' : it's a serenade for the Death... the deads' spirits, with elegant clothes, walking through the forest to reach a river bank where a Caronte waiting them and standing with one's hand out...gloomy and fine vision...

The words you included in your artist comments section from Thomas James Allen reminded me of when Jimi Hendrix said "To understand the music you need to understand the silence between the notes"
I love this photo

I kinda wish he weren't wearing white gloves, they distract me a little too much. Otherwise, a gorgeous capture of light and shadows.

I love the work you did with the model, specially the clothing and the pose. And of course, the moment, capturing those sunrays is so difficult, great job... i can't stop staring at this photo.

Somehow the guy looks as if he's been edited into the photo, and I think that is due largely to the surrealism factor of a man in a tuxedo and top hat, walking through the woods in the middle of the day. Excellent work, the man truly looks as if he is a foreigner.

This will probably get buried under all the other comments but let me just say the execution of this piece is nothing short of absolutely stunning. Clearly the most phenominal thing here is the lightning and the image would be just as successful without the foreground character, but his addition to the image is what truly makes it and gives it that great aura of surreality. He gives that feeling of "lost-ness" because he clearly doesn't belong in the setting (yet at the same time, he seems to be right at home in this image). One thing that's interesting is how you can't see his eyes which gives me the impression he's blinded in some way, yet we're looking directly into a bright source of light that is being obscured by the trees or in a way 'blinded'. I pull out parallels from anything but I love images that make me think of figurative undertones like that. Your selection of "The Magic Forest" by T.A.J. in the description is a nice touch. +fav of course. Wonderful work.

i absolutly love this pic. i'm not sure if i interpret the person as a foreigner though. he seems to know exactly where he's going and a purpose to what he's doing.
the rays of sunlight are eerie. they really are, in my view, what really makes this peice truly wonderful.
well played!
