Description Retriever and Tabby

This piece was gift art for the lovely staff at our local vet, who saved my 25 week old kitten from a bowel impaction (from a cat toy, no less, sigh, time to move onto chew-proof small dog toys, silly bengal cross rescue kitty that was found in the bush and saved from euthanasia and now herself!) that certainly would have killed her without the life-saving surgery that she needed. And you know, while we paid for it and everything, I still wanted to give something extra to say thank you. It's not every day a person saves a life that is dear to me, and well...

You should see Maybe though! (Our kitten) She is shaved eeeeeverywhere. But alive, which is the main thing.

Do you do pets in your commissions?

Yes! I mean, it depends on the animal and the time-frame, but I've done a lot of different pets; from leopard geckoes, to guinea pigs, to dogs.

I'm glad she's alright too, even though it means she's recovered to 'total ratbag' status!

This is absolutely gorgeous! I'm so glad your kitten is okay, and I ADORE her name! My sister's cat had to have surgery from swallowing a whole bunch of thread that got tied around her tongue and tied all up in her organs, so I know how it looks to have a kitty shaved everywhere!

Lovely piece of art, and I'm glad to hear your kitty's doing better. I have to use the dog toys idea with my 20 pound Maine Coon cross/mix. He's a big, athletic kitty and can be pretty rough on things. Hope your kitty has a speedy recovery!

Ravenari In reply to NiniriAZ [2010-05-28 00:14:37 +0000 UTC]

Yeah, Maine Coons can be pretty rough on toys too! Bengals, ocicats, Coons all can; I think small dog toys is a good idea too. They go through way more testing than cat toys, and while you still have to use your own discernment, I think I'll feel safer knowing that something has probably gone through the mill with a puppy.

Kong Wubbas are pretty good so far with Maybe, too.

Thanks for the tip! I'll make a note to look for one of those for Theo (my Coon mix).

I'm familiar with Kong, for their "ZoomGroom" for cats. Theo loves his zoomie and will wander around crying/meowing plaintively to be brushed with it. Silly kitties!

Ravenari In reply to NiniriAZ [2010-05-28 00:24:39 +0000 UTC]

Oh I'll have to look into that ZoomGroom! I haven't heard of that one.

Kong Wubbas are basically fabric covered Kongs - either a tough polyester, or sheep wool (which is ingestable and smells good). The cat ones are smaller and have catnip in them, the dog ones range for the size of the dog, but they're all pretty awesome.

Honestly though, I think Maybe would actually just chew on / play with a regular rubber Kong.

They are pleased with it. Said it was 'exquisite and unnecessary.' I knew it was unnecessary, but it's not every day a person saves a life of someone I care about, and this kitten is already so precious to us.

I'm happy Maybe is okay too.
