Description
With its highly distinctive design, here is the Cantwell-class Arrestor Cruiser as seen in "Andor." This ship was also prominently featured in an earlier edit of the "Solo" movie, but its main scene was cut. In the final edit of "Solo," this ship only appeared briefly in an recruiting video. Of course the name "Cantwell-class" is a tribute to Colin Cantwell, one of the original concept artists for Star Wars - A New Hope. While he hasn't received as much media attention as Ralph McQuarrie or Joe Johnston, Cantwell's early work on A New Hope provided the foundation for many of the classic Star Wars designs that we all know and love today, including the basic shapes of the Y-Wing, the X-Wing, the Skyhopper, and others. I recently heard that the design of the Arrestor cruiser was Cantwell's proposal for the Imperial Star Destroyer. While the design for the Star Destroyer continued to evolve into the ISD that we all know and love today, one can certainly see the early DNA of this design present in the Arrestor Cruiser. This original design was finally brought to life on-screen in episode 11 of Andor. Decades after Cantwell built the initial concept model for this ship, he finally got to see his distinctive design come to life on screen shortly before he passed.Related content
