Description For those of you who love the classic '66 style Adam West Batman, and the accompanying Batman Movie, here is the Penguin's classic "Pre-atomic Submarine" in all of its wacky glory.

For those of you who prefer a grittier style of Batman, ala the Arkhamverse or the hit TV show "Gotham," I like to think of this submarine as the Penguin's latest gimmick to promote his notorious "Iceberg Lounge."  The cagey bird acquired this old submarine and had it refitted in his own inimitable style.  While he ostensibly obtained this vessel as a publicity stunt to promote his club and to provide "highly exclusive" tours of Gotham City Harbor for members of Gotham's high society, this craft also offers the Penguin a number of interesting advantages for his more covert activities. . .

I know, right?  This cool submarine holds an interesting place in Bat-history, but it never seems to get much attention.  So far as I know, no one has ever made a toy, model, or collectible replica of it.  It's so quirky and distinctive, I think fans would love to get a replica of it somehow.  I always love it when the comics or animated movies include the '66 Barris Batmobile in some way.  Similarly, I think it would be fun if this design made a few cameo appearances in modern media, such as the comics or animated films.  I can think of lots of ways that the Penguin might put it to use in his various criminal schemes.

Thanks for your comment!

OMG!  You even remembered the little pirate flag on the periscope, just beneath the Penguin head.

Yeah, I did my research and studied this pretty closely.  Thanks for noticing!

I recall watching a movie that was as grim and serious as any episode of Criminal Minds, and it starred Adam West and Burt Ward...whaddaya mean, you suddenly doubt the "grim and serious" part?!

Yeah, I remember that grim and serious Batman movie starring Adam West and Burt Ward.  But every time I go to watch it again, it seems somehow, . . . different.  Did I get older, or did someone re-edit it?

For those of you who enjoy the flipper propulsion system, here it is, in all of its glory.

For those of you who cringe at the giant orange flippers, and would prefer a more serious solution, I like to think of it this way:  Perhaps the Penguin's sub is actually powered by an internally mounted drive system.  Perhaps the flippers are just there for show, to make the sub convincing as a silly publicity stunt, distracting attention from the vessel's actual capabilities.  This allows the Penguin to turn "pleasure cruises" into an important part of his lucrative smuggling operation.  And when rival shipping vessels start sinking off the coast, no one will suspect the Penguin's silly little tour boat had anything to do with it.

I always liked the flipper propulsion system on this, uh, P-boat.

Thanks so much for your nice comment!  This was surprisingly fun to work on.  Gathering reference imagery for this project had me watching the movie again, which was so much fun, and brought back a lot of good memories.

You're very welcome, and I really enjoy your effort in keeping with canon as much as possible, right down to the working flipper fins at the stern in place of the usual twin propellers. But the jewel in the crown in my opinion would have to be the eye colored outer torpedo doors. They alone make this model something extra adorable and fanciful that Adam West's BatMan is.

Best wishes with your future arts too.
