Hello All,

Above is my original character that I have created for my Strange Magic Fanfic. She ties into chapter Chapter 11: WAR! where she makes her first appearance, although she is briefly mentioned in Chapter 10 too. She is a magically altered Fairy / Spider mix and her real name is revealed in Chapter 12 (and listed in the spoiler part below). She has eight limbs, a set of arms and legs that are attached to her torso in the same manner as any fairy, but she has an additional four spider like legs that are attached to the base of her back just above her buttocks, one pair being slightly above and more in center of her body than the other pair.   She is also known as the Spider Queen of the Forbidden Forest. The Forbidden forest is right next to the Dark Forest and at one time it was a part of it. But through a past treaty, Bog had given her all the land to the east of a main river that cuts the Dark Forest almost in half. Queen Spydera's realm is mostly inhabited by spiders that she can control.

For her appearance, as described in my fanfic, she is very tall at almost a head taller than Bog and two heads taller than Marianne.   Her shoulders are so broad that Marianne's shoulder span fits between her shoulders. Her skin is mostly a light grey color, but all her limb extremes are black. So not show in the drawing above to allow the viewing of details, I have not shaded in her hands, but they are black too. Her four hind legs are light grey at the 'shoulders' on her back and then slowly darken to black down the first segment of each leg.   The extreme tips are blue.   Her fingers also terminate in the same manner with the extreme tips being blue. The 'feet' on her main legs are blue on top and there is a pincer below them which is black. Her lower legs above her feet are light grey, but gradually change to black at her ankles. Same with her forearms, they are grey and turn to black at her wrists. Her hands are similar in size and appearance to Bog's. She has fingernails that are extensions of the bones in the tips of her fingers, and the undersides are very sharp, so they also can be used as weapons. The tips of her four hind legs are pointed, but not as sharp, yet she is strong enough to impale an adversary with them. Her torso is very masculine and she has very thick and muscular arms. Despite her tall size, she has a short torso. Her main legs are more womanly and are very long, which is what makes her very tall. She has a feminine shape overall, but not as curvy as Marianne. She does have a bit of keister (butt) on her and she normally drapes her rear legs over it and they rest there with the tips almost touching the ground.

She has silver / white hair and she normally wears her hair as a Mohawk with the sides of her head shaven and the front short and forming a crest on the top of her head. The rest of her hair on the back of her head, she gathers up into a high ponytail that she either braids or just lets it hang down the side of her back. She also wears her hair out and then it is very wavy and flowing.

Her eyes are a starburst blue and white and look like this:

She has a narrow and long nose, a slightly large mouth with very full lips. Her eyebrows are very long and they go out passed the sides of her head. She has pointed ears like most fairies do, but they angle differently than the ears on the fairies from the Fairy Kingdom.   Her head is more oval shaped and she has very high cheekbones that are pronounced. Her elongated face has a bit of a gaunt look, but still looks attractive.

Her special abilities are as follows: As said above, she can communicate with spiders. The undersides of her pointed fingers and feet have tiny hairs on them, in addition her main 'feet' have pincers on them. This gives her the ability to scale walls and ceilings using all her limbs. The tips of her four spider legs are hollow and and can shoot spider webs from them.   High in the trees in her kingdom she could swing from them Spider Man style. As stated above she has a very strong masculine build and is much stronger than Bog.   She is also very agile and has very fast reflexes. It has been rumored that her reflexes are so sharp that she could catch an arrow mid flight. She is also very adept with a spear, not only in throwing accuracy but because of her strength, almost everything she throws a spear at, she destroys. She also uses her spear as a sparring staff in a similar manner as Bog uses his staff for up close confrontations. Her hands and 'feet' can be used as weapons (as outlined above).

Her armor is made of a special material that is in part made of leather (such as the breastplate and belt, but most of it is made from a satin like material that is very strong. Later on it is discovered that dark black parts of her armor are actually tightly woven layers of spider silk, which is very strong like leather, but it is much more comfortable.   In the drawing above, she is wearing her battle armor and it does provide her with protection for most of her body.   She is a little daring on the front side of her body, but her reasoning is that she can see anything that is coming at her and could potentially stop it from reaching her. Save for a cut out on her back to allow her rear legs to protrude from, her backside is well covered. Her leggings are made of the same satin spider silk, but it is a bit thinner on her upper thighs, but she also has wears a dark grey silk skirt under the tassets of her armor.   The side tassets are visible in the drawing above and come down to about midway of her thighs.   She also has a tasset on the front and back, but the front one can only be partially seen above as her right leg crosses over it. The fronts of her shins are made of a bit stronger variant of the material.   Her arm bracers (or gauntlets) are also made of the same material with the forearm area being thicker and stronger than the part that goes up her upper arm.   The collar is made of both leather and the satin material and it provides a strong 'shield' around her neck.

Queen Spydera's disposition as based on testimony from Bog, as he was the only character that has dealt with her in the past. He describes her as very mean and nasty and is only out for herself and her spiders. However, recently a problem in the Forbbiden Forest has her rethinking her attitude and she tries to make changes and when she is introduced in my story, her manners are considerably better than when Bog saw her last and so she is trying to turn over a new leaf. While she doesn't readily show her deeper feelings often, there are hints that Spydera has had a troubled past. With her current situation in the Forbidden forest becoming dire, she realizes she has to change her ways in order to receive the help she needs.

Materials: Standard #2 pencil, Faber Castell Eraser, Blue PrismaColor art pencil, line drawing on 50lb art stock, half a 9 by 12 sheet.

I have to say that I have had tons of fun drawing Spydera, but I had my challenges with her too. She is without a doubt the most complex being I have drawn so far. I lost count of how many hours it took to draw her.   Also this was the first time that I did a drawing in two phases as I wanted to keep her line art and filled in 'coloring' separate. This is also the first time I used color in a drawing.   So in addition to using a regular #2 pencil, I used a Prismacolor Blue pencil as well to color in the extremes of her appendages as I have described her both in my story and above. However, because of the scans I ended up getting this discoloration in the background. I have to find a way to get rid of that.

I initially was going to base Spydera off a half fairy, half spider in a centaur style like this:

However, I accidentally came across a picture of Elise from the League of Legends video game:

I have decided this was by FAR a better form to base Spydera on. And thus I decided to draw her in that style. (And this was after the fact that I had already written her appearance part, so I had to rewrite that part to accommodate her new 'Elise' look).

For her face, I initially wanted to use this woman as a model for her face:

But I had problems with that facial angle. So I ended up kind of winging it using another photo that was fully facing front. The end result was her face above and it turned out FAR prettier than I have described her in my story. But that kind of worked out as I did want her to have a balance of both feminine and masculine features.

In the fanfic, her outfit is mostly black but I have varied the shading above to show more details to differentiate the different areas on her body / armor.   Her hind legs are all black (darker than shown) with the exception of their shoulders (not shown). The dark black is her armor. The light grey by her legs is her skirt. The bare areas are as follows: Her shoulders, upper arms, neckline, upper thighs (between her boots/leggings and her skirt), and center abdomen.   Her hands are drawn bare for detail purposes, but they are black too.

I finished the drawing off with her spear and....well please don't ask what she is sitting on.   It is some sort of half wall. While it is very simple, I felt that the line art was cluttered as it is (before I decided to color in part of the drawing). Perhaps I will change that wall into some kind of 'odious throne' and also give her a web like back drop.   She is a queen after all and deserves such.

Overall I had tons of fun with this one. She turned out better than I expected and since I have separated the finished drawing above from the original line art (which I will post later), so I still have the option to color Spydera in using my computer.

My main goal is to slowly more and more start to use my computer. I have a powerful (and expensive) art computer and I have yet to create anything decent with it!
