*update* fixed the title, didn't see the mistake for fora bit..
An itch I've been wanting to scratch for a while.
I heard that the beta version of the Super Punch-Out!! (SNES) had a different design for the 'Challenger' the player would be taking the role of: www.vgfacts.com/attachments/fu…
This one looked radically different than the one they used for the final version, which some folks on DA have dubbed as "Birdy Mac".
Pretty unusual they went with such a change but looking at the beta design, it looked a bit more like a hero-type character out of a shonen sports manga than some of the goofier ones of the PO style.
With few screen shots to work with, I worked carefully to get the hairstyle and face right- after which, I did a the full-body of the work.
Compared with Little Mac and 'Birdy', I could see this guy as a bit more seasoned- like he's had a good bit of experience before taking on the WVBA circuits, but that's just me.
It was pretty funny hammering this one out. Might do a color update if I can find the time to.

Took a bit if work to get the design right. This one differentiates a bit compared to LM and Birdy, a good bit.

Don't think it was on tumblr.. taking a look at PO tags, and the pic doesn't come up. Only other bits of the beta re a youtube bid, and another pic ( with this guy getting knocked down by Bald bull).
