Yes, you can mask out areas that you need to keep white or that need to be a certain color. I wouldn't get to dependant on using masking fluids; sometimes the work looks nicer just by simply planning the placement of the colors.

It took me a while to learn paint with watercolors, but it was worth it.
Don't give up. It gets easier.

The colours have bled nicely, your manner of painting seems very controled in this media.
I'm far to aggressive when using watercolours.

Someone else had the same observation.
No, the birds would not leave a reflection at that height. They would have to be flying lower. There would be a one if they were closer to the water.
