Loki allowed one true smile to grace his face before turning to face you with a sneer.

"She's not my mother. And what else can I do in this forsaken place but just read?" The former prince looked down on you with a haughty look on his face. "And what does a distinguished lady such as yourself doing here, of all places?"

"Is not a woman allowed to visit her man?"

His lips curled up in a cruel sneer. "And you still believe in that foolishness?"

You looked up to his face, unaffected. You gazed deep and noticed that barely perceptible flicker in eyes.

Is it safe?

Yes.

With a wave of his hand, your form flickered. You saw yourself still standing at a distance to your Loki's cage, talking to him politely. Right now that is what everyone is seeing. Your lover never lost his touch in magic.

It is safe, indeed.

You wasted no time in closing the distance to his prison. You pressed your forehead against the glass. "I missed you. So, so much."

"I know."

You looked at Loki, you saw him gazing at you with that familiar soft, fond look in his eyes. It reminded of all the days past, when you both would walk in the gardens hand-in-hand, of his stolen kisses under the moonlight...

The former prince gently placed his hand on the glass. You followed suit, splaying your fingers over his, and imagined that he was holding your hand again.

"Whatever happens," you gazed deep into his eyes. "Always know that I love you."

His lips curled up in a barely perceptible smile. The look on his face told you everything.

"I know."

Little did Loki know that it will be the last time that he will be seeing you.

"I came to deliver grave news, my lord." The soldier gave Loki a salute. "The queen and the Frost Maiden are dead."

The queen. Frigga. His mother. And the Frost Maiden. You. His beloved. Dead. Both of you.

And wasn't it just a few scant hours ago that you last paid him a visit?

Whatever happens, always know that I love you.

A despair unlike any other filled him.

"The Frost Maiden has asked something to be given to you, before she breathed her last."

Something appeared at the former prince's hand. It was a necklace of pure gold, with an intricately cut emerald at the center. It was his present, for you, the night that you become his betrothed. He can still remember the look on your face and the smell of your hair when he clasped it behind your neck for the first time. You have not taken it off since.

The former prince off-handedly dismissed the soldier, and when he was sure no one was looking, he made his grief known.

That's how Thor found his brother in prison. Lying in the midst of destroyed furniture, with your necklace around his neck and anguish in his eyes. Loki was grieving, and he is ready to take revenge.

"I'm not doing it for you."

Loki lay dying in the arms of his brother. The face of his mother and his beloved flashed before his eyes. You were looking at him, your face painted in that breathtaking smile reserved only for him.

My love. I will be joining you now.

Then Loki, Prince of Asgard, breathed his last.

And Thor's cries of anguish were heard throughout the barren land.
