Description Well, since Kary is supposed to be Arella's daughter and have certain traits (i.e. body, nose, eyes) that resemble her mother's, I thought it would be wise to do a more in-depth analysis of drawing Arella.

As I wrote on the paper, "In order to know Kary, I need to know Arella."
{And by 'know,' I meant know how to draw; 'know' the feeling of each character and know their art-identity in my style.}

....and so I made a reference sheet for myself, a guide for myself of things to keep in mind.

I think I spent two hours staring at pictures of Arella and trying to draw her. {XD;
I was actually pretty proud when this was done; mostly because I had locked in so many aspects of Arella that Kary has as well, and I had managed to draw her body better than usual...

*~*

{Top row of pictures left-to-right, and then comments on the bottom row left-to-right}
Translations of my indecipherable writing XD:

...Like mother like daughter. Arella has that melancholy feel, and Kary does as well... ... ...it's in the expression as well as facial features.

Accidentally gave her some Perez-Raven features - large-ish forehead... angular in my mind... larger upper lip...
Holy Azar, it's actually a DECENT MOUTH!

...
Alignment issues.
Eye/forehead...
Capture the Arella essence?
Nose is just a BIT too far forward.

...you just get the feel that she's a VERY GRACEFUL woman...

I always do her eyes 1/2-lidded...?
A gesture of the Azarathean calmness...?
Eyes a little uneven but they should be left alone.

I actually got a little cheekbone form in there.

BODY WORK?

...No reference...
But I remember the FEEL - thin, beautiful, but delicate. Fragile. The important thing is to capture the FEEL.
Uncertain, going off memory. ELEGANT

Delicate curves *arrows*

Beautiful, but delicate.
Fragile but beautiful.

"The more fragile, the more beautiful." *footnote*

Tall, thin stature - it's the Arella feeling!

*That explains a lot about Arella, doesn't it...?

*scribbled out above the shoulders* ...?

Her robe is much smoother and tighter fitting than the one I usually draw Srentha in...
Shoulders back, held erect and - not really confident, but elegant.

*arrow* Black sash-thing around waist; in small of back and comes down below belly-button...

(...I think I actually got proportions right, too!)

...so. Challenge time! Hands. Long, thin, delicate fingers.... so obtuse angles, curve on fingertips...

...But first arms.
...mostly in sleeve, so EASY-ish.

Robe
Thin on arms, drapey from elbows to wrist.
DRAMATIC change.
(Still need to practice for upper arm; and proportions on the arm, too. xD)

...I love Arella.
She's amazing. *~heart~*

Now, the hard part. (I need this practice anyways!)

{self-critique}Pinky arcs up above and too high.

Hmm, I need to work on established perspective for hands. XD

Bleh, TOO long and thin. XD But shapewise pretty good. ^^ Hm, maybe next time I drawher I'll use a bit of palmistry...? ^^

--

{By the way: Yes, Arella as in Raven's mother. From Teen Titans. No, she is not my own character, but I love her with a sort of affectionate, awe-filled respect....}

...I don't like blatant disclaimers, they take away some of the creative-feeling in the comments. XD; But I'm doing it anyways because not everyone knows: Arella is NOT my own character, she is property of DC comics, Cartoon Network (I think), and Warner Brothers Studios.

Indeed I do. ^^

...I love them, really. <33 It's weird; my favorite genre is actually symphonic metal, usually bands from Europe take that place - but I don't enjoy any of those bands as much as I enjoy Evanescence, but most other American rock bands just don't do it for me. ^w^

I've been tow two concerts, a member of the official fanclub for about three years, and I'm currently insanely excited about their new album! 8D Can't wait for the release; Oh, gods, it's bound to be awesome. @w@

XD I don't know exactly what you mean by "the only girl rock band", but I think Amy is definitely one of the strongest and most personally-involved female fronters in the music industry. ^^ (Well, with rock anyways. Some of the "symphonic metal" bands I love have really strong female leaders, too, but - well, those guys are from Europe and I think the other players are paid almost as much attention to by fans of the bands...)

Which one was a limited edition? o.o Can't have been fallen... I know that The Open Door had a bonus track for the first 200 copies ordered online... but other than that... Which one was limited?

Oh, they're as cool as they look on TV and ten times better! They light shows are amazing (especially the heavier stuff, like with Sweet Sacrifice, I'll NEVER forget that one), and the second time I went they did Missing and Understanding - which are SUCH forgotten songs, and it's pretty awesome to hear them performing those in person. (It's especially cool when you consider the fact that Terry agreed to play the same songs Amy had composed with Ben, and the drummer and bassist put a little of their own flairs into it...~ )

Not to mention how awesome it is to see Amy playing that piano with so much PASSION... And everyone really gets into it, of course. There's just SO much soulful energy on that stage no matter what song they're playing, fast or slow or even when they're interacting with the audience - and I'm sensitive to emotional energies anyways, but Evanescence makes it impossible to not feel drawn into that. It's amazing.

And Terry's a really cool guy; I got his autograph and he's so laid-back...

Oh, no, I don't mind at all! ^^ I ask questions all the time and I love talking about the things I fandomize over - Evanescence is no exception. ^w^

Haha, nice.
(I'd recommend joining EvThreads or something - ever heard of it? It's the official forum for Evanescence; I'm MissingShadow there...~ )

Ahh, THAT one. I already have it, actually~ (It's in a new case, because I dropped the old one and it broke... D8; But the booklet, CD, and cover are all still the original~ )

It wasn't so much limited edition as it was just... not mass-produced, since it was before they went BIG - er, more exactly, before they had a big mass-producing record label. :3

(And Origin isn't even that incredibly rare compared to their first EPs. @.@; You can find those songs all over the internet [best place to go is the EvRef], but the EPs themselves sell for hundreds of dollars when you find them. @.@; )

And yes, I've definitely heard about their new CD! 8D I've listened to bits and clips (and the live showing, of course!) of the new songs on MTV - have you seen those yet? - and I am so excited - too greatly for words..!

Tesla? I've seen their CDs at work but I've never heard their music... owo (But getting autographs is awesome, isn't it?~ I went to a fair not too long ago, just so I could see a really good local band, and I got most of their autographs after the show... X3 )

I havent seen the MTV songs.I have to start watching it more.I wish I could go see Ozzy Osborne.You dont how suprised I am to find another person in the world who is a fan of both Evanescence and Raven from TT.I thought I was alone in this world lol!But you do a good job on her mother.What you never see on deviant art is a picture of Arella as a litte girl.I was going to but I cant draw and my brother would tease me.Its hard being a older sister lol.X_X Been trying for a long time to read the comics on Arella but I cant find them on the internet where I can just read them on line.I went to comicvine.com all of a sudden there was a pic of trigon on top of her and I was just like AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAHHHHHHHHHHHHHH!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!CLICK X!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!But then I saw there really wasnt any thing showing so I just looked at the other pics instead of that one.When I had first seen trigon I told my brother."How would that work out?How is it posible for them to have a child."But then I looked at comicvine.com and did I GET MY ANSWER!O_O HA HA!

=_= trigon <>< Fish LOL random typos!XD

The MTV song-thing was a one-time thing, pretty much... I'd recommend "watching" the website more than the TV; it's rare to find much music on MTV these days. 8F And there's plenty of Evanescence on the site, I could give you a few links if you'd like. ^^

Oh, sweet gods, have you seen how many Raven AMVs there are on YouTube to Evanescence songs? Maybe look around there; you'll find plenty of Raven-and-Ev-fans. ^^

Thank you very much. I always try to work hard when drawing Arella, since I have so much respect for her... /:}
(I think I want to redraw her, actually; I've improved since this picture and I think I could do her more justice...)
I might try to borrow your idea, to draw her younger if you don't mind... :3

If you ever asked me, I'd have recommended reading the character bios for Arella and Raven on titanstower.com - that website is AMAZING, information-and-miscellaneous-data wise.

Which site, Evanescence.com?

I might be drawing Arella (should probably call her "Angela") more from the comics than the cartoon (at least at first), because (besides there being many more pictures of her), I'm far more familiar with that version and the comics tell more about her, plus there are actually a few pictures of her when she's 18(ish), so I have references and I can compare those against how she looks when she's older...

XD Yeah, I don't think she'd have it either. /XD
I never did figure out why she has the chakra-gem in the cartoon. o.o I always figured that, for Raven, it was ruby [a gem used to help maintain inner harmony and peace] and it was placed on her ajna chakra since she - well, she has a lot of connections to the astral world and I sort of imagined it was there to help her maintain a balance between her physical and nonphysical existence... Or help keep it in control and help her stay aware of it so she doesn't slip up. *shrug* (...my apologies if this is confusing. <8D; I'm pretty involved with this esoteric stuff.)

Mind sharing what other ideas you have? I'm curious. 83 And maybe you've thought more about this than I have and noticed something I've missed. 👍: 0 ⏩: 1
