My guilty pleasures are: Levi, blood and dynamic poses


LEVI YOU BASTARD WHY DO I KEEP DRAWING YOU Anyway, I only drew this as a practice for a bit more dynamic POV But yay Survey cloaks This was just to practice some digital painting; I picked up a few handy tips that I thought I'd try out with a simple portrait and I think it worked - I finished the drawing after all! Since i somehow always rendered cloth in 50 times more detail than the skin, I painted the cloak first THEN his skin, which sorta worked but then IDK how to make the hair and stuff blend properly so it kinda all just sits strangely together... BUT THEN I FINISHED THE DRAWING The time it took made me nearly give up, so to prevent myself from doing that, I finished it first! *roundabout logic*


My soul makes odd sighs of relief when I finish a digital painting. I think even it realises what a torment the learning curve is...

dang that perspective bending mmm
like the minimalist bg choice there i can never make good bg choices bahaha
and the coloured shading on the cloak is awesome!!! the skin somehow doesn't have enough blue/green in it though, seems a little too warm to match the cloak shading.

well backgrounds are like really different from everything we learn about art and colour theory (it shouldn't stand out, it should blend, it can be blurry) so yeah but lol keep it simple (at this point I was close to giving up anyway ). yeah ive got a lot to learn about painting and blending, will try and fix those issues next times on the next Levi...

ah yes that's always the idea, make sure it doesnt detract from your initial focus of the figure and whatnot
i'm just not good with coming up with simple things that work!

Haha, I always try to paint the stuff I render in greater detail last, since I figure that by that point my will to live should be sapped to a level where everything matches up XD


wow the skin on his hands looks amazing, as does the hair (so much detail!!) how did you do the hands? (I need tips on how to do skin!)


hmm yeah I think you've already identified it, but it's kind of like each individual part looks awesome, but it doesn't hang together quite as well as it could? (It might be the cloak - since there's no green anywhere else in the painting. I guess you could either sneak green in somewhere else, or use a more yellowish green.)


ahhh you do the most awesome dynamic poses Β and man, you improve really quickly! keep it up!

Well to paint skin the way I do (not that I advocate my way of doing it srsly I bet i'm wrong on many counts) you really needΒ lots of layers, like around 10+. it's the exact same way I painted the Rivetra doodles except this time I added textured brushes and about 5 shading layers and colour burn haha. Thing is you can't get the final effect by painting individual colours in bc it's how they combine that makes the image (i.e. if you look at each individual layer they are horrible, but together it works okay! )

I just think my way of painting each individual component rn isn't very cohesive, so I'll just have to keep trialling that but yes dynamic poses!!!
