Val is a pokemon catcher for her family's breeding center/daycare in Goldenrod City. The center only raises pokemon from Kanto and Johto, so Val has almost no knowledge of pokemon from other regions. Due to the heavy competition between the innumerable breeding centers, Val decides to check out these new pokemon.

Personality:
Because her job requires her to travel a lot and spend lots of time in the field, Val has become a loner. It's not that she doesn't like people, but she is used to being on her own and thinks that people are too noisy and fussy. Her social skills aren't great, and she bluntly tells people what she thinks. She has a dry sense of humor.

Pokemon:
Val physically trains with them and is capable of winning a one-on-one fight with any of them. She considers them her partners, and in her job she physically battles alongside them. In battle, she uses her whip to crack out orders instead of calling her attacks.
Although she is able to train any pokemon to some extent, Val prefers "tough" pokemon. Her favorite types are the earthen types (fire, rock, ground, and steel).

Arashi (Typhlosion)
When Val was four, her father gave her a Cyndaquil and started her pokemon education. Arashi is fiercely protective of Val and hates losing. Though his abrasive nature distances him from the rest of the team, he is viewed as the leader due to his experience.

Suna (Tyranitar)
Val stole the then Larvitar from a poacher. When given the chance to return to the wild, the Larvitar chose to remain with Val. Suna can be very stubborn and is protective of her team, which she considers family.

Tsume (Sneasel)
Mischievous and eager to battle, Tsume is responsible for the scars on Val's face. After catching him, Val trained him to fight more effectively. Tsume is always ready for a fight and enjoys the protection of his "big bros and sisses" on the team.

Gira (Gyarados)
An unwanted Magikarp in the pond at the family daycare center, he evolved when a young Val fed the pokemon rare candies instead of vitamins. Since evolving, he is constantly eager to please Val and prove his worth to her.

Airmid (Skarmory)
Haughty and proud, Airmid has barbed words for anyone and anything. She tends to be in a better mood when there's food around. She and Suna are good friends.

Sen (Tauros)
Sen had lost on eye in a bull fight and thus fell to the lowest standing in his herd. Val caught him and trained him to fight even though he lost his depth perception. He has full faith and confidence in his master.

Ushi (Rhydon)
He started out as a moody and angry Rhyhorn, but once Ushi discovered the joys of surfing as a Rhydon, his life transformed. Though he has lost his intimidating appearance, Val admits that it was a healthy change. Either way, his fighting prowess has not diminished.

Iwan (Machamp)
A noble, chivalrous pokemon, Iwan is like a knight in shining armor...without the armor. The cracks in his head crests are from when he protected Val from rampaging Ursarings. Iwan inherited a strong mental defense from his Mr. Mime father. He is well-liked by the rest of the team and has tutored them on the fine points of proper fighting technique. Hone is his best friend.

Eru (Electabuzz)
Val would not have normally raised an electric pokemon, but she received the Elekid egg along with a Magby egg, so she decided to train the pokemon. Eru knows that he is the oddball on the team, so he tries to make up for it in fierce battling. He has an extremely short temper.

Kiri (Pinsir)
Caught during a Bug-Catching Contest, Kiri is a freak of nature among Pinsirs, having huge horns, bulging eyes, and an overly-large mouth. Though he wasn't the looker, Val was pleased with his strength. One of Kiri's favorite past-times is...shredding paper.

Hone (Marowak)
This Marowak deeply loathes humans for exploiting pokemon. The exception is Val, who earned her respect, though that story is too long to tell here. Hone has broken her bone weapon and sharpened the end. Though now useless for throwing, it is capable of stabbing. She attached claws and fangs to increase the damage. Val had a metalsmith coat the cavity within the bone with a thin layer of steel, making the bone heavier and sturdier. Hone is a disciplined swordswoman and close friends with Iwan.

Kaen (Arcanine)
As a Growlithe, he was in the Goldenrod Canine Training program, but his overly brave nature caused him to disobey orders and endanger his team. As a result, he was kicked out of the program and lived as a stray in Goldenrod. Val found the disgraced pokemon and trained him to use his bravery in a more conducive manner.
