Description
This is an original setting inspired by various franchises that I enjoy and it is also an AU to my Front Ops main series. This might can also be unofficially count as one of the imaginary tree universes from Mihoyo games due to some characters that would be featured in this universe are based on theirs.

A Write Up:
In the mid 1980s, Sergei Nikanorov (a fictional character) took power in the Soviet Union and began a series of economic reforms similar to that of Deng reform back in China albeit in slightly limited form. This resulted in the Union persisting into the 21st century instead of falling apart like IOTL. Soon other Warsaw Pact countries followed similar reform with the exception of East Germany that left the pact in 1992. Meanwhile in 1995, an asteroid the size of Bhutan called 1995DS2 "Asmodeus", was discovered passing through Saturn and later was found to be heading straight toward the Earth, expected to impact in the year 2020, just enough time to give everyone in the world to prepare. Thus Project "Athena" was conceived and the world gathered together to build an array of laser-firing satellites around the planet capable of cutting through rocks and were hoped to be able to blast the asteroid into smaller pieces. This project however, was mostly funded by the US through NASA and supervised by the US Military, the latter hoping that they could copy the technology and then weaponize it somehow.

In 2020, the asteroid entered the earth orbit and the satellites managed to shoot and divided the large asteroid into several smaller pieces, and also deflected 58% of the total mass away from earth (some of it just simply hit the moon instead), but the 42% remaining, mostly consist of smaller pieces fall towards the earth anyway. The largest chunk, which is the size of a 2 story building, hit the Kashmir region and devastated the area the most. This event, known as "The Heaven's Fall", devastated every major aspect of human society and lives but luckily it is not as severe in the east as it was in the west, where the US was soon plagued by civil unrest and economic hardship caused by the combination of being involved in the project (they are the largest contributor of Project Athena after all) as well as increasingly corrupt and inept yet divisive two party systems that lasted through 2035, in which they reorganized the entire country into a confederacy of larger states/republics that absorbs the former smaller ones while largely refrain itself from the world stage.

While the world slowly recovered from the event, Russian and Chinese scientists who investigated the impact site soon found out that the area was already seeded by a mysterious crystals later dubbed as Exonite, which are growing rapidly and infect the area around it. When the scientists of both nations examined the Exonite crystal, they found that in small quantities, the crystal is largely harmless to earth organisms, but a larger dose or concentrated cluster of it is proven to be harmful and even deadly. When the crystals grow into a huge spire that rises above the stratosphere, the surrounding area becomes inhospitable to earth-based life forms. Those who didn't die are mutated beyond comprehension and, if they are humans, are forever shunned by society. But there are some individuals who gained so much of Exonite exposure that their DNAs were severely altered and those individuals in turn, possessing a capability that can be considered as "supernatural". Some of these individuals, commonly referred as "Alters", were still treated like mutants and shunned while others were hired by the nation's military and paramilitary groups around the world for their abilities.

On the other hand, Exonite is also proven to be a reliable source of energy; when turned into an Exonite Core, it can generate power that can power an entire metropolitan area the size of Shanghai or Tokyo for half a millennium non-stop. Other applications of the crystal such as weaponry, such as Exonite-based munitions, or computer hardware technology by the creation of Exonite-based chips are possible, which raised the computing capability and storage capacity by 700 folds, advancing the technology 200 years ahead of time.

But some group of people saw the disaster and the emergence of the Exonite crystals differently, conservative religious groups seen this as a sign of end time or punishment from the God(s) for humanity's hubris, other, which for the past 30 years has been growing in popularity and numbers, saw it as the coming of a new age, a next step in human evolution thanks to the arrival of the crystals and gene-altering capability, and the removal of the sinful old world order. This group of mostly anarchists and libertarian groups, with some streaks of religious movement, call themselves Nova Ordo. Their name derived from Esperanto words meaning "New Order" and as their name implies, they represent the new beginning of humanity and saw the nations of the "Old Order" to be ineffective if not oppressive. The group started as some sort of terrorist group that mainly attack major nations or nations that aligned themselves with those major nations but soon enough these organization grow into a capable paramilitary groups, possessing military-grade weapons and has proper base of operation which centered around Exonite Crystal Spires around the world. This prompted the UN and nations around the world to labels Nova Ordo as very dangerous rogue entity and Class-1 international terrorist organization.

The year is 2068, and the UN have been fighting against Nova Ordo (or NOVO for short) for decades and yet as the crystal spreads further from the spire, Nova Ordo has grown even more belligerents than ever. The UN, under its Peacekeeping Forces branch, assembles groups of Anti-Nova Ordo paramilitary organizations and special forces from various nation's military that have "Alter" individuals in them in order to fight this growing threat.

Some Notes:
1. As Mentioned Above, the United States reorganized into a loose confederacy that has semi-isolationist foreign policy. Leaving China and USSR to be active major players.
2. Germany Reunited in 2015 after Juche-like East Germany crumbled without the aid of the reformed (or revisionist in the eyes of East German government) USSR
3. Yugoslavia eventually broke up, albeit less violently, in 2008. With Serbia joining Warsaw Pact while Bosnia, Croatia, and Slovenia joined the European Federation (formerly EU)
4. Iran and Afghanistan joined the Warsaw Pact sometime in the late 2000s
5. The European Federation was formed in 2030 following the Heavenly Fall disaster. The UK eventually joined in 2045.
6. Japan has a brief civil war up north, in which one the protagonists of the story participate in. The result was the creation of the Ezo Autonomous Region following the end of the civil war to ease tension between the Japanese and the then revolting Ainu and Ezoan (a new ethnicity, an intermingle between Russian, Japanese, and Ainu) people.
7. Think the Alters like the Radiants from Valorant or the Legends from Apex but more tacticool and have R6 Siege Operator dash in them.
