Description Here's something I did for our org's annual event.
Digitally painted over a watercolor sketch.

The Baconaua is a gigantic flying dragon-fish in Philippine Mythology that swallows the sun or moon, causing an eclipse.

If you're in the Manila area, catch the exhibit at the One Workshop Gallery along Pasong Tamo.
It's on till August 31, after which the exhibit moves to Kapitan Moy in Marikina.

YOU ARE TOO COOL! > o <
Fly lil fish kite! fLY!

*strokes the flyin' fish* That's just awesome! Shadowing with such a complex character is really a tough job -- this looks so flawless ^^ I just looks so natural!

So what does the legend say about how the sun and moon come back after the eclipse is over?
(By the way, congrates on winning in Bloom's Atlanta contest! ^^ You definately deserved it~ )

Ah, yes! To get back your sun and moon, you need to make a lot of noise by jumping and banging on the earth.
This loud noise will scare the Baconaua into spitting the celestial body out.

I imagine eclipses during olden times (when these myths were taken as fact) were pretty noisy.

Thanks!

I've never heard of a Baconaua before, that's really interesting. I like how it looks like he's going to eat that little fish kite.

Thanks! The actual sketch was 16"x16". It was tough to scan and reassemble it all since my scanner was only A4 size.
