Description My latest piece >>What's He Building<< also available as PRINT (soon). Yes I bought a print account.
Used similar techniques as on mundtot , but this time mixed with textures and type.

This piece was inspired by the song 'What's He Building' from Tom Waits

What's he building in there? What the hell is he building in there? He has subscriptions to those Magazines... He never waves when he goes by He's hiding something from the rest of us... He's all to himself... I think I know why... He took down the tire swing from Peppertree
He has no children of his Own you see... He has no dog and he has no friends and his lawn is dying... and what about all those packages he sends. What's he building in there? with that hook light on the stairs. What's he building in there... I'll tell you one thing He's not building a playhouse for the children what's he building in there?

Now what's that sound from under the door? He's pounding nails into a hardwood floor... and I swear to god I heard someone moaning low... and I keep seeing the blue light of a T.V. show... He has a router and a table saw... and you won't believe what Mr. Stitcha saw There's poison underneath the sink of course... But there's also enough formaldehyde to choke a horse... What's he building in there. What's the hell is he building in there? I heard he has an ex-wife in some place called Mayors Income, Tennessee and he used to have a consulting business in Indonesia... but what's he building in there? What the hell is he building in there?

He has no friends, but he gets a lot of mail I'll bet he spent a little time in jail... I heard he was up on the roof last night signaling with a flashlight and what's that tune he's always whistling... What's he building in there? What's he building in there?

We have a right to know...

A great use of type to distress the image.

I should have mentioned, if you're going to have this printed see if you can get some words printed with a spot varnish. The effect will blow your mind.

haha! I guess some people don't understand that joke. It's something Woody Allen said in the movie Annie Hall...

"Love is too weak a word for what I feel - I luuurve you, you know, I loave you, I luff you, two F's, yes I have to invent, of course I do, don't you think I do?"

Lurve is stronger than Love I suppose...ask Woody.

beside the fact that most films are dubbed over here, I haven't seen much woody allen movies. But if that's the meaning of lurve I guess it's glomping time
Thank you very much!

My favorite spoken word piece by Waits. In the live version he introduces it with, "This is about the neighbor we all eventually become," but you don't know if he means the guy being described or the guy doing the describing. Either is creepy.

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

rawimage In reply to johnshine [2007-03-21 07:55:56 +0000 UTC]

imo it means both. first you think hey that guy is creepy, just to realize the one who observes his neighbour with such passion isn't less.
Thanks for the fav too

this is interesting to look at. i like how the text overlays the image with that texture. great effect. i can decribe it well but this is quite appealing and i dunno why.

he sang 'maxwells silver hammer'...
in the style of tom waits...

This is quite amazing. I don't think people appreciate how much time you actually spent doing this, it looks like it would have taken ages and ages to do. I love the warm colours and the details to the portrait is amazing in itself. I love the words and the bordering, its so complicated ... Fantastic, actually. I love the way the colours and shadows change ... From dark and muddy at the bottom and bright and glowing at the top. This is superb!!

rawimage In reply to Gregoria [2005-05-21 12:12:53 +0000 UTC]

Well, I actually did this pretty fast. something about 3 hours including the drawing.
Thank you very much for your extended comment. It's allways a pleisure to read your thoughts. Somehow most of my recent pictures turn out that colour scheme, even if it wasn't intended initially...
