Hey Bret, because these are just speed sculpts to get my hand back in I'm not doing any texturing, I'm just doing lots of bpr, best and standard preview renders and then layering them up in photoshop. I keep/ erase what i like/ dislike.
A quick bit of handpainting on top to accent and it's done.
It's a fun technique and nearly always throws up a nice surprise or two

very cool. i have been trying to do something similar with my models, but i have not found the formula i like yet. do you mask by cavity? it kinda looks like it, i may have to try that... anyways good job.
