Description Acrylic

This (another) painting is about Medusa, the famed Gorgon queen, known for her snake tresses that turn everyone to stone. Medusa’s life might resemble that of a widowed heiress to a expansive fortune. A uneventful life in a oversized luxurious palace with boundless treasure, fancy clothes, specialty meals & over stuffed exotic couches (without the endless stream of servants bustling around). In Medusa’s palace, there would an amazing gallery of Roman statures created from wandering strangers that have happened to stop by. She would fill up her uneventful life by drinking fancy cocktails, feeding mice to her hair, and lounging around on those overstuffed couches.

*note -Yea I know, the hand on Medusa is kinda messed up.

Wonderful painting, and great description. I find many good works of art, but the descriptions are lacking in a big way. I really appreciate the effort you put into yours. If the artist cares enough to add a good description to the work, I know it is worth looking at. Great composition, and good subject-matter. Love it.

I totally agree. I wish that Museums and art galleries required long descriptions for each piece. It would make art more approachable to the public. It would take away the mystery and misunderstanding to modern art and it would help people relate to historic pieces that we don't know anything about anymore. All in all, it would only help educate everyone a little bit at a time. People can always not read it if they aren't interested.

Anyhoo, all I'm trying to say is : museums can be boring to anyone that hasn't taken a few art history classes. I hate that.

I completely agree with every single word you wrote. I dislike this idea that the audience should figure it out on their own, unless that is literally what the piece is meant for. Many people don't appreciate art, because they don't understand it! Not everyone can figure out the meaning behind two black lines, and one white circle. If the artist wishes to have his/her work viewed by an audience, they should be thoughtful enough to realize that not everyone is going to understand what they are looking at. Not everyone is a purely visual person. Just because they don't immediately understand a piece doesn't mean they are stupid. It just means they need a little help. We should be responsible enough to help them out. It would help us out as well by increasing the number of audience/fans. I'm absolutely sure that more people would learn to love art, if we as artists helped them make art less of a mystery. I certainly wish some Math-genius would make mathematics less myserious for me.

Someone could probabbly get tons of grant money to write labels for paintings in galleries. Someone could make tons of money creating a company to do that... hmm.

There's an idea. Someone should definitely give it a try. It just might work out.
