Description There exists a simple thing laid out before you that you can't touch. A simple thing that other people take for granted. No matter how hard one struggles, it is not yours to have. Accept that all you can do is take happiness in other people simply having what you desire and are deprived of. She feeds the birds so she can enjoy them basking in the one thing she can't have.

With that stated, this sums up how I feel about my own art right now. You find that you aren't the artist you want to be, and grabbing for it only burns you. You take joy wherever and however you can find it and let that be enough.

There is alot I could say about duality. Light/dark, inside/outside, life/death, solitary/group,
but you guys can probably get the drift of what I'm going for. I guess what I'm trying to say is kinda personal, maybe you guys gleam it, maybe not. Either way, enjoy.

Lots of photoshop over an ink drawing. I didn't really map out the perspective, so I eyeballed alot of it. It was a lot of fun to mess around with perspective.

Frank Chang makes these amazing perspective books. I got one off my brother in high school and it was the best thing ever. Also, the best tip about perspective I ever got was to think of everything in terms of boxes in space. Everything is easier that way. And...!
Thanks for the fav!

I can see a few errors in the perspective, but for eyeballing it? That's pretty damn good. The light coming through the windows adds a lovely bit of perspective to the image. Though in the second to the right those couple of lines don't blind in as well as some of hte other little bright shines of light you can see in the others. The difference in color with the birds is cute too, they go rom super bright to super grey. XD Which is cute and well goes with the whole they're kidna supposed to be like that but it just really stands out somehow. The skeletons work great, they remind me of extra birdhouses the way the birds seem to perch on them. :3

I dunno. x3 This is just quite a cute picture you have here. : D

Hahah. Good eye for catching my mistakes.. The 5th window in is particularly on a different plane... ain't it.. now..
Tehee.. thanks for the comment about the birdhouses and skeletons.. Now that you mention it, I like that very much, too..

Thanks, I tend to notice things like that. Gets annoying for a few people in real life. XD

You're welcome. x3 It's kinda a cute idea, as far as skeletons go.

Having a critical eye is one of the best ways to improve your own work, I believe. But if all you see is what's wrong with your art, you get kinda discouraged all the time. <_<;;;; Chatty+Critical eye=talkative about what's wrong. (I've been known to give pretty harsh critiques if I don't watch what I say.) People sometimes just wants to hear what's good and are so tired/wornout/done working some art to want to have someone dig in deep and point out what's wrong. Hehe. Yea.. ^_^; So I hear you on the 'annoying bit'.

Nifey In reply to RayArray [2006-09-20 18:56:42 +0000 UTC]

Yeah, that's true. D: Sometimes it's really frustrating if you keep seeing them so I started posting my art online to hear "Good jobs" XD Yeah, I think I've been called an asshole a few times already because I kinda just said things the wrong way and the person took them a bit wrong; leaves me all "I was trying to help, dude. D:"

That's why more of the time I use the little eye to go "Oh that's nifty! " in comments. Totally lost my thought after watching my cats lick eachother, which was interesting for some reason.

It's rather bittersweet, to be happy and content but being unable to bask under the same light as the darling little birds.

Gorgeous use of light and dark, and the perspective is a really nice touch for depth

I know the feeling. But for me it's more like picking at a thread in a fuzzy sweater and realizing that the sweater isn't there, and you are, in fact, wearing a tank top and a polka dot bandanna. So you go to the beach and mourn the sweater later, when it's cold and dark and your fan is making uncomfortable noises.

Or something like that.

Erm. Anyhoo, I like the picture. Emotive and all. And the birds with their special circle eyes. ^^

ats on shoulder: I totally understand. XD.

Bwahaahah... 'special circle eyes'...? I gotta elaborate...My boyfriend called me today explictely to tell me that the birds don't have pupils.. I laughed really hard 'cause when I started, he declared that the birds have to have pupils this time...Because birds have pupils. Then two hours after the first phone call he called back because he tried to 'fix' their eyes in windows paint... But he gave up after 5 minutes when the eyes just looked like black pits. He said and I quote, 'Art is hard, I quit'.. hahahahahah. He doesn't make art, you see. I wish I could show you the version he made, but he didn't save it. Thanks for giving me the opportunity to share. XD.

That's amusing. Lucky for me I don't try to draw birds seriously, or I'd be attacked by a mutant flock of irritated art-loving birds, and people will say: "Whatever happened to that girl with the cape? She was so lively before she was mobbed my mutant art birds."

Weird about birds' pupils. I'm going to try and stalk one later, just to see. Or I'll try to draw one and see for myself when I am mobbed by the previously mentioned irritated flock. ^^

Haha. Thanks! It is always awesome to hear comments from you. I still gotta get you to sign my copy of Flight2 and it is a pretty good poking reminder everytime I see your icon. ...Thanks about the perspective too! Now that I kinda finished and I'm looking at it I keep noticing that things exist in different planes. The 5th window down in particular and a bunch of stuff on the floor.. Awwwhahah I should know better by now to grab a piece of paper large enough to plop in vanishing points in place of telling myself I can fudge it later in photoshop. Haha. I so love photoshop.

Oh yeah, Photoshop is our friend (especially the liquify tool to fix-fudge those perspective troubles).
A friend of mine gave me a very interesting trick to make my own perspective grids. Once I've practiced it, I may make a tutorial cause it's a very good trick!

RayArray In reply to rufftoon [2006-09-20 07:21:57 +0000 UTC]

Oh! I wanna that that trick....this....this is gonna be good! I would really truly absolutely love to see this tutorial. I hope you find the time to make it! And and... you use the liquify tool to fix perspective??? O_O... I guess I gotta try that, it doesn't seem to make sense in my head.. but I'll put it to the test.

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

rufftoon In reply to RayArray [2006-09-20 14:07:20 +0000 UTC]

Well, I use liquify to fix tiny bit of perspective. A tiny line here and there. If massive bits of structures are off, liquify is bad (but the transform tool can be a bit of help)

Hmm... gives you a whole new perspective when it comes to the sun light. Or other everyday things that so many people all over the world are still laking, like food, water, school, and so on.

Great pic by btw. I like the fact that I made me stop, if only for a second, to think. I would say that THAT is what measures the quality of a piture.

You are the sort of artist that I would aspire to be like.
Never give up your work, as it will always make someone happy.
