Description Typically I don't go for the oriental dragon, because I've always been a fan of the AD&D, but recently I've been toying with various forms and body types of dragons and this one turned out well.

Done with blue and black sharpies, on velum. I would imagine this would look cool on a piece of china.

oh lord! When I saw the thumbnail I thought this had been done on porcelain!! This is a BALL POINT PEN? Kudos to you for using such a medium! Fantastic!

I cant believe it was only sharpies!!! Your idea of it being on china is a great one, and what is velum?(if you don't mind my asking.)

I initially drew this with a ballpoint pen onto a sketchpad. The Velum is a kind of tracing paper, and so I inked directly onto the velum. Sadly, I don't have a lot of time for to experiment with fancy art supplies, so I usually just use what I can find... travsthebean ( [link] ) inks to velum too, when he's not doing it directly into the computer using Adobe Illustartor. Thanks for the faves to everyone.

If only we all had more time huh? I could so get so much more stuff done! Great job with being able to draw with ballpoint pens, that would take forever for me to finish plus I would have Tons of messups! Velum sounds like something I will be looking for when I go to the art store next time.

Don't bother learning to draw with ballpoint pens. Though I love the feel, it's really desperation, cuz I sit in front of computer all day long in a life-sucking job and doodle nonstop, as a result... I've done some very nice doodles, but the medium's horrible for any type of serious art. For one thing, if you attempt to scan it, you get all sorts of spectral highlights from the ink and impressions on the paper, which are unpredictable and undesirable. The ink, I think, has some sort of metalic gloss to it. So big patches of "dark" end up with these bands of reflection from the scanner's light source.

Nonetheless, I just keep doodling...

I'm not really a big fan of drawing with ball point pens because even though I love the feel, like you, its just I don't know. If I draw with a pen I will make a mistake that I didn't want, then I won't be able to fix it, then I'll get discouraged. So I just try to stay away from pens, Pencils are for me!*hugs my pencils* I think pens have a metallicy gloss to them too, which makes them shiny(I like shiny). But I think you should just keep doodling you make great pictures!

Rally yourself!! With Pens there's a sense of impending doom!! There is no going back! Now backwards glances!! You must commit to the lines you draw, erasers be damned!!

Heheh...

Yeah, okay, so there are some definite advantages to being able to erase lines.

You reminded me of my art teacher when you said that erasers be damned(though she didn't say it like that) But she has been making us draw with pencils and charcoal and we are forbidden to use the eraser well... for now at least! What do you like better pen or pencil? Eraser or no eraser?

Life's too short for erasers!!

This is beautiful, no doubt. And you're right, I can see this on one of those super-detailed ornamental china bowls you see in those history museums.

Well done!
