Hold up a sec. I'd like to point out that Yoshi, at least, has basically no business counting as a separate universe. There's also Wario, the three Donkey Kong universe characters, and Daisy the Echo Fighter, who definitely counts because two of the FE characters are Echoes and the characters they're Echoes of are semi-clones of each other. Even without counting any of that, there are still eight non-Echo characters with the Mario series symbol as of Piranha Plant's release.
Even worse, your claim was that there were more FE characters, so Zelda matching it by itself is still admitting you're wrong. If you're going to move the goalposts, at least move them far enough to stop the other guy from having scored, otherwise it just looks like you're bad at cheating in addition to being bad at the metaphorical sport.

Oh wow. Going straight for the throat, are we? Shame that, in this context, such a statement misses the throat by about half a furlong. (For the sake of comparison, being 1% of a furlong from head to heel would make you unusually tall)

That, at least, is something I can agree with. Hell and a half, FE is the most blatant example of the problem, with two Echoes of fighters that are semi-clones of each other. LoZ is nearly as bad with its three Links who share 90% of their moveset.
