I actually like the movie a lot, but this is based off the book. If you've read it you know how creepy Pennywise really was.

I like the movie too (to a degree), but not because it's scary. I like it because the kids are decent actors, Tim Curry's just a load of fun, and the whole things just laughably dumb while expecting people to take it seriously. Of course, the fact that it falls victim to every formula from every one of Stephen King's stories, among other things, just makes it bad.
I haven't read the book, but if it's anything like the movie, I imagine I'd be pleasantly disappointed by it.
