Description
This is the first time I've ever tried doing some 2D animation with a pencil, and I'm surprised I was able to make anything sensical out of it. It actually turned out better than I expected by a ten-fold.It took about an hour to draw out the 18 frames (moving at 15 FPS). It was quite fun, so I'll certainly be doing more in the future!
Brb, buyin' paper....
I've never gotten around to using any real art materials by the way, just a standard HB pencil/eraser and some low-quality three-hole-punched blank paper.

Nice!
My favorite part is how you animated the face.

The face was damn fun to do, I'll admit. Every little detail in the expression changes were a joy to make.

Lovely smooth animation, with a lot of great details. Kind of an odd character, but I can see it as a good choice to start with.
Hope to see more animation from you soon!

Ooo... This is pretty nice. I'll be honest here and say I thought it was a Worm at first.
But yeah, I like it. Liking the little lines you put around the bottom of the boot while it's jumping.

Way smoother than my digital 2D animations I've done! Well done! 83

Oh my, this animation is very well done! Your first time? Oh my, I couldn't have done better at first attempt. XD
Excellent work! The character looks adorable! X3

Thanks Clara!
I kind of cheated it in a way though, I picked the most basic action combined with a guy with no arms. I mean, I'm seriously afraid of attempting to animate limbs!

Ah mai! This is a very smooth animation there. I've always been into 2D animation since I was a child and I've tried it. But I'm never getting the same result as yours. I bet it looks even better cleaned up.

Hm, what method did you use to do the animating, was it with a pencil? I just basically drew each frame with very dark and thick lines, then put another page on top and traced. I think that's the standard procedure... though the professionals would use much better equipment.
Beforehand though, I slowed down a few scenes from different animated films and looked at how the different frames went into each other so I had something to learn off of. Without doing that, I probably wouldn't have even been able to pick up the pencil.
I'm not sure if you've tried that. If you haven't and you're interested, try it out! Once you get rolling it's really quite fun.
Do you have any animations of yours I might be able to see?

There's a really interesting wikipedia page about animation. I myself used Photoshop for most of my animations which can simulate the tracing method. The wiki page talks about how many kinds of animation is done, the cel-animation is my favourite type of animation. The backgrounds are hand-painted with watercolor and every frame is photographed with a piece of transparent sheet called a cel, placed over the background with a single frame of the character drawn on the cel. Apparently, these cels and backgrounds make for expensive collector's items but the cels set flame very easily.

I've only really done simple GIF animations but here is one that I did a long time ago...perhaps the best one I did. [link]
