Description
They came up out of the water, thick-bodied, roach-like things with five crab eyes and freckled barnacle carapaces. The scrabbled up over the docks like sea lice, across the surface, hanging below, and even among the pillars, big as a sitting desk and shining in the moonlight. They had two arms each, and four legs, but beyond those were degenerate little legs, flattened into paddles that stuck out the side like oars, and they all had bilious growths like mussels or extra tentacles that lay flat rather than struggle to rise in the thin air, and in a moment he realized what he thought were mutations of form or parasites were instead clothing and tools._____________
This one is totally half out of his pressure suit. I imagine they have awesome pirates.
AVAST YE SCLERITIZED SCALAWAGS
They're true aliens. Moon-dwellers and memetic space demon viruses aside, Opanians are from another universe entirely. They've gotten stuck and while it's hard to tell where their technology ends and they begin, they claim they got it from -humans- of all places. They have since been in contact with the ocean itself, and while the idea of contracting with metaphors is still very alien to their culture, they seem to be getting the hang of it, albeit extremely slow by human standards.

Do the Opanian pirates worship the Flying Spaghetti Monster? Because that would be awesome!

I've been looking over and over for another name for them, but I got nothing right now. That will change eventually.

Cool, especially with the lobster fins and pressure suit. Has sort of a hermit crab thing going on.

Hooray! I tried to stay away from humanoid forms in general for the other races, but since a large chunk of the noosphere is currently infested with the damn things, they end up shaping their end of the perceived metaphors. Which puts selective pressures on other things. Thunder shaped the Sky-People himself, and will probably do so again. According to the cycle, Opanians will one day be the main race that inhabits the world (long after the golems have ruled their own five ages and the narhoojai have five ages, as well), and humans will be relegated to the background.
I imagine that future world one of wide, shallow seas, scattered with islands, and on the bigger islands, humans dwell in great, blocky alien spires, living in the mystical sort of isolation and awe usually reserved for elves.
