A great gray owl waits for darkness in a cold Minnesota forest. Great gray owls are among the largest owls in the world and I've always wanted to see one in the wild. While watching him just before sunset, shivering in temperatures hovering just above 0 degrees F, I could truly feel its presence. I am incredibly lucky to have had the chance to see this animal.Sax Zim Bog, Minnesota

This is so amazing I wish we could have seen a Great Gray, I loveeeee this picture so great.
My step father and I just got back from the Sax Zim Bog today no joke (: He is a photographer (not a bird watcher haha) We where really looking forward to seeing all the birds and owls. It was a great time we might go back next weekend for the bird festival thing they have going on.

Great shot, you can see how well his it's camoflague is has evolved for its surroundings. It's very similiar to the moss covered tree. Beautiful bird and shot.

Beautiful. He chose a lovely perch, too... those lichens are wonderfully textured and fit the cold, stark feeling of the scene.
