Description
I finished crafting my first set of arrows this weekend!I loosed them a few times and they few straight and true.
The arrows are 29in from nock to point, have a spline of 65#, and have 190gr steel tips.
Quite heavy arrows.
I also made the bow. It is a hickory selfbow medieval style off the knuckle shooting.
A draw weight of 50# at 28in. the bow stands 72in tall
Its a great hobby, very relaxing! ^v^

Thanks,
I was looking for a more fantasy style over modern practicality.

Gotta love a nice longbow. I don't shoot as much as I should, though, arrows or otherwise.
Thinking about making a recurve bow myself, but much research first into how to get more than a 50lb draw. Any pearls of wisdom?

Mmm, recurve bows are beyond my skill range X3
I like them though, I want to find a elvish looking one at some point.
I've seen some recurve bows with high draw weights though.

Yeah, beyond mine too, heh.
Wouldn't mind having a nice carbon fiber piece, but a bit out of my price range. A lot a bit.
I like mine to have a high draw, but can't really seem to get much. Still, thats where that research thing comes in I suppose.
Like compound bows well enough, but they're bulky and mechanical, feels a lot less intuitive and reflex driven to me. Fun as hell to shoot though, long as you don't shatter one of those aluminum shafts.

I like the primitive version of archery.
I was looking for wooden non-takedown recurves and those are even harder to find.
also I like the deflex/reflex longbows its kinda like a large recurve.
Its funny, at my local range all the archers there use very modern tools and
then I'm there with a selfbow shooting wood arrows off my hand.

I think that method, in itself, is far more unique than any number of super-high-class, high dollar parts and equipment you can bring to the range. Wooden shafts make me nervous, I'm never sure what the highest poundage rating for those things are, and I won't want a shaft through my arm, heh.
In any case, these things are super fun, regardless of the type, and I plan on learning well enough to do my own hunting when I go camping and such, which is why I'd like to design and build my own, make it compact and takedown for traveling light.

I wish you luck, I definitely want to see if you manage to build one!
