Description
Here's my last drawing of 2013, a scene featuring the talented and beautiful Meaghan Rath playing Sally on Syfy channel's "Being Human." I wanted to see what one of my portraits would look like with a full background. Trying something a little different...Graphite on bristol, approximately 10" x 8"
For any other "Being Human" fans, I drew more traditional portraits of Meaghan and both Sam's here:

Thanks so much! I can't tell you how much that means to me. You're so right about expressive faces! I struggled on this one for a while, but loved her expression and wanted to try to capture it. After many revisions, I think it finally turned out alright in the end.

I love this so much! Can't stop looking at that beautiful smile on her face, and you drew and shaded the hair amazingly as always too! c:

Thanks so much, Kali!!Β I'm quite drawn to her smile as well! Haha! ^^
With her wavy hair, I've come to think of this drawing as being influenced by Botticelli.

Thanks Rakesh! I love her expressions, especially when she's smiling. I actually started this one before the other version I did of Megan. I struggled initially with the likeness, maybe because it's at a different angle. But I'm glad I was able to come back to it and finish before the end of the year.

Thanks Paul! I actually started this one back in March, but only finished last week. I had struggled getting her expression, so I took some time away from it. But I sure am glad that I was able to finish before the end of the year!

Akanksha! Thanks again!Β Believe it or not, I started this back in March of this year. I took some time away from it because I was struggling with some of the perspective, and just came back to it a month ago. I'm glad to finally be done with it! Haha!
Happy New Year!

Once again, fantastic job on the hair! Β That texture is always difficult. Β Also, the mouth is well done; the white teeth really pop out .
Plus I'm always impressed when people don't skimp on the detail--I noticed the detail in the sweater .

Thanks Lana!! The original screenshot reference was pretty low-res, so I had to approximate how the hair might look. I had the basic shape, but couldn't make out too much detail, so I made up some of the shadows and curls.
Excellent! Yeah, I was wondering if anyone would notice the detail in her sweater. Same way with the hair, I couldn't make out the exact pattern, so I found some similar sweaters and used those as a base. I really hate drawing any patterns like that, so I'm just glad it came out ok. Haha!

Ah. I have that problem very often also. In the majority of my portraits the detail is a tad assumed (usually in the hair).
You're welcome .

Excellent work Ray, the expression & rendering on her face is pretty much perfection and you've done a great job with the background which really strengthens the girl in the foreground!

Thanks so much, Edman! I actually started drawing this one back in March and almost gave up on it. I was struggling with her expression, as the original screenshot I was working from was very low-res, and I couldn't make out the details. Eventually I decided to take some time off, work on other drawings, and come back to it. The time away helped me see some things I didn't notice the first time.
Honestly, I was a little hesitant to draw a background. It might be the first I've tried in 7 years. I agree though, I think it does help to make her stand out more in the foreground.
I truly appreciate that your kind comments and how much you like it!
Happy New Year, my friend!

Oh, that's awesome! It means a great deal to me that you're able to recognize her right away. I spent a long time with this one, and for whatever reason, I always struggled seeing her in the drawing. I think maybe the angle was different than what I'm used to drawing. Thanks so much, Bren!
