to tell the truth. I think 21 to drink is too damn steep. Most other developed countries with highways have 18+ drinking laws and don't have the same problems.

One word: MADD. That, and the US government withholding much-needed highway maintenance funds from each state until the state's government upped its drinking age to 21.

Which doesn't do much good anyway since some states actually have as much funding as a small country (New York, here's looking at you )

The drinking age being raised to 21 happened back in the 1980s or so.

You don't understand present-day American culture. Now unless those other countries have an outbreak of "texting and driving" like the USA does, there's a reason why things are particularly tight here about these sort of things...

no there is not. Why does Canada have the same mileage per road but yet lower accidents due to alcohol? Why do so called "underage" citizens drink but yet have lower rate of crime related to alcohol. Do you not know the reason we have such high rates of such incidents is because of our fundie driven ""Let's restrict the shit out of everything" in hopes we will be safe. The thing about texting and driving is a red herring too.

So, you're saying the philosophy is "the tighter you grip, the more will slip through your fingers" if I'm interpreting your comment correctly. That is indisputably part of the reasoning, but here in America, I don't think the common person of (I HATE to say this) "my generation" gives a care for safety or being smart or having common sense. They'll drink/text and drive all they want, no matter what any "law" is written.

Now you can finally drink. But don't go too much.
